This weekend, it happened again: more mass shootings in America. This time, gunmen in an attack in Odessa and Midland, Texas, and another in Mobile, Alabama, shot dozens of people, with at least several reported dead.
Already, the shootings have led to demands for action. “How many of @JohnCornyn@tedcruz constituents must die before they do something?” the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence tweeted, referring to Texas Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, both Republicans who have resisted stricter gun laws.
But if this plays out like the aftermath of past mass shootings, from Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 to Las Vegas in 2017, the chances of Congress taking major action on guns is very low.
This has become an American routine: After every mass shooting, the debate over guns and gun violence starts up once again. Maybe some bills get introduced. Critics respond with concerns that the government is trying to take away their guns. The debate stalls. So even as America continues experiencing levels of gun violence unrivaled in the rest of the developed world, nothing happens — no laws are passed by Congress, nothing significant is done to try to prevent the next horror.

Látrabjarg bird-cliff in the Westfjords of Iceland is the largest sea-bird cliff in Europe and one of the westernmost parts of Europe (24°32’´3″ west). The Bjargtangar part of Látrabjarg is often called the westernmost point if you skip the mid-Atlantic archipelago of Azores. Látrabjarg is up to 441 meters high and 14 km long.
Látrabjarg is considered to be one of the most spectacular sea-bird cliffs in the world and the bird life here is amazing. Here are literally millions of sea-birds, with the most sought after (photography wise) being the puffin. But you might also see the razorbill, fulmar, guillemot and many, many other species of sea-birds – 10 all in all – nesting and raising their chicks in the cliffs.

As the home of some of the greatest works of art produced by humanity, the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City is a popular tourist destination (to put it mildly). If you’ve been one of the 4 million visitors to the famous landmark each year, you’ve probably learned of one aspect of the room filled with Michelangelo’s beautiful, biblical frescos that tends to come as a surprise to first-time guests.
There’s no photography or video allowed in the Sistine Chapel.
Yes, despite the rules that encourage quiet contemplation of the fantastic, eye-popping art that adorns nearly every inch of the walls and ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, visitors to the chapel will find their experience peppered with terse shouts of “No photo! No video!” from security guards. The prohibition against photography has been in place for several decades, and while many assume that the no-photography rule is in place to prevent the flashing of cameras from affecting the art, the real reason dates back to the restoration of the chapel’s art that began in 1980 and took nearly 20 years to complete.

Police said there was no indication anyone but the suspected gunman was shot. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, mother church of the Episcopal Diocese of New York.
The 45-minute concert had just concluded and people were starting to walk away when a series of shots was heard, sending people running down Amsterdam Avenue screaming and diving to the sidewalk. Officers who had been on hand to provide security for the event quickly moved in and shot the gunman, who police believe was armed with a rifle.
After the gunfire stopped, a large group of police officers, guns drawn, approached the suspected gunman as he lay wounded at the top of the steps, near the cathedral’s huge doors.
“Don’t move! Don’t move,” some officers shouted.
