Poor Americans would lose billions of dollars worth of federal benefits under the Senate GOP tax bill, according to a new Congressional Budget Office report.

This is largely because the legislation would eliminate the individual mandate, which requires nearly all Americans to get health insurance or pay a penalty. This would result in 13 million fewer people having coverage in 2027, the CBO found.

Many of the folks who would forgo coverage would have lower or moderate incomes and would have qualified for Medicaid or federal help paying their premiums or out-of-pocket health expenses, CBO found.

Those earning less than $40,000 a year would be worse off in 2025, when the bill’s provisions would mostly be in effect, according to the report released Sunday. On the flip side, those with higher incomes would enjoy tax breaks.

Why do some people seem immune to colds and flu? Follow these tips from real people and experts, and you can learn how to avoid them too.

Everyday mistakes can raise your risk of catching a cold and that includes touching surfaces that many, many other people have touched. A University of Arizonastudy found that a virus spreads to over 50 percent of surfaces and other employees within hours when a single person in an office is infected. Partha Nandi, MD, a leading physician and author of Ask Dr. Nandi, advises avoiding touching common surfaces when possible. Even after you wash your hands, ‘use a paper towel to turn off the faucet,’ he says.

One distressed bobcat found itself taking a rather longer journey that it anticipated, after being hit by a car and transported on a 50-mile road trip. The unlucky animal found itself caught in the grille of a woman’s Toyota Prius and was forced to travel with her to work through Gloucester, Virginia.

Workers from Richmond’s Animal Care and Control centre (RACC) helped the woman safely remove her feline passenger from the car, and took it to the Wildlife Centre of Virginia for a checkup.

Obesity is one of America’s most pressing health concerns — more than two in three adults are overweight or obese. Although Trust for America’s Health’s most recent State of Obesity report reveals that obesity trends in both children and adults have begun to slow, the epidemic still afflicts 17 percent of children and 38 percent of adults. There are, however, certain cities and states where unhealthy life habits are more common than others. WalletHub’s analysts compared 100 of the most populated U.S. metropolitan areas across 17 indicators of weight-related problems, including access to healthy food, projected obesity rates and percentage of physically inactive adults.

Pope Francis has arrived in Myanmar, becoming the first pope to ever visit the southeast Asian nation.

The world’s most high-profile Christian takes center stage in a staunchly Buddhist country accused of horrifying acts of brutality against its Rohingya Muslim minority.

.

The Pope has previously decried violence agaist the Rohingya, calling them his persecuted “brothers and sisters.”

Experts warn that this trip will require balancing a uniquely complicated set of humanitarian, diplomatic and religious questions. Even his own cardinal has advised the Pope to steer clear of the word Rohingya for fear of stalling his message of reconciliation before it has even begun.

Anas Maghrebi rolled his drumsticks back and forth between his thumb and forefinger.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter fled Syria’s civil war and landed on the Greek island of Lesbos in September 2015, at the peak of Europe’s migrant crisis.

His post-rock band made its way north to Germany, handing out CDs and holding impromptu gigs along the way.

Maghrebi now enjoys his new life in Berlin, a diverse city that he described as the “mecca for artists” in Europe. And for the most part, he feels at home here.

But not everything is rosy for Maghrebi. More than 18 months after arriving, he is only now beginning to learn German.

“It’s not like I come here and all of a sudden I’m a free bird,” he explained.

What On Earth Do You Have To Do To Be Kicked Out Of Politics?

November 27, 2017

Click link below picture

Here’s a depressing question: Can someone be kicked out of politics?

Sure, someone can fail in politics, but can someone fail out of politics? A person can lose an election, be booted from a committee or sprout fungus from too many decades on the back bench. However, can a person screw up so badly that they aren’t let back in? Are there personae non gratae in the world of governance? Are there proverbial ice floes upon which the truly ostracized are plopped, their phone calls never to be returned again?

“I guess if you’ve murdered somebody, I assume that’s a bright line that exists,” mused Liz Mair, a GOP communications consultant. “Short of that, I’m not sure there’s anything you can say, 100 percent, that will kill off somebody’s career.”

Spurred on by Roy Moore’s continued competitiveness in the Alabama special election to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Senate seat ― this despite a mounting number of women who have accused him of sexual misconduct, including charges as severe as sexual assaulting a minor ― HuffPost set out to answer a simple question: What on earth do you have to do to become so toxic that you can’t find gainful employment in or around politics?
