An Arizona judge on Friday refused to grant a divorce for a transgender Arizona man who gave birth to three children after beginning to change his sex from female.
Maricopa County Family Court Judge Douglas Gerlach ruled that Arizona’s ban on same-sex marriages prevents Thomas Beatie’s 9-year union from being recognized as valid.
Thomas Beatie was born a woman and later underwent a double-mastectomy, and began testosterone hormone therapy and psychological treatment to become a man, but he retained female reproductive organs and gave birth to three children.

Meet Avery Molek, a 6-year-old drummer who’s currently experiencing his 15 minutes of YouTube fame. In a video making the rounds online this week, the tiny drummer is shown shredding his way through Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher,” barely missing a beat as he plays the classic song like a pro.
Molek has been playing the drums since he was four years old and in just two years he’s played over 15 shows spanning four different states, wowing crowds with his prodigious love of Kiss and other hard rock bands. According to his Facebook, the munchkin musician has also embarked on a tour in his homestate of Pennsylvania. He’s already giving Mr. Alex Van Halen a run for his money!

NASA has released a series of new high-definition photos from Mars.
The images from the Martian surface were taken by different cameras on NASA’s Curiosity rover over the past few weeks. The images depict the landing site, various features of Gale Crater, Mount Sharp and tracks created by the rover.
NASA has been releasing pictures since early August, when Curiosity landed on Mars. The first color photo, which was released on Aug. 7, had a hazy, poor quality, because the dust cover was coated with fine debris.
The new rich, high-resolution images include 360-degree color panoramas as well as animated GIFs.

This image taken by the Mast Camera on the NASA Curiosity rover shows the geology of Mount Sharp, a mountain inside Gale Crater, where the rover landed on Mars.

A young British man has been convicted of manslaughter after killing a gay teen by setting him on fire.
The BBC reports that 20-year-old Jordan Sheard has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail for the death of Steven Simpson after pleading guilty to manslaughter charges. Simpson, 18, died one day after sustaining “significant burns” in June 2012, according to the report.
Simpson had Asperger’s syndrome, a speech impairment and epilepsy, the Yorkshire Post noted. The teen had reportedly been dared to strip down to his underpants before being doused in tanning oil, after which Sheard set him aflame at the party. Other reports said that anti-gay messages, including “gay boy” and “I love d*ck,” had been found scrawled across Simpson’s body.

A Florida teen fatally shot his 12-year-old brother because he mistook the boy for a home invader, according to police in Orlando.
The older boy, 16, was home alone on Friday when the younger sibling arrived at the house. Concerned that someone had broken in, the older boy picked up a gun, ABC News reports.
“He heard some noises and he called out for his brother and he didn’t answer and so then his brother startled him,” said Orlando Police Department Detective Mike Moreschi, according to WFTV.
Realizing his mistake, the older brother immediately called authorities.

Moments before a New York mom was murdered while vacationing in Turkey, a passing train’s camera allegedly caught a brief glimpse of her walking near grimy railroad tracks.
A woman in a pink dress — believed to be Sarai Sierra — is seen in the recently released footage recorded along a train line on Jan. 21, the day that the 33-year-old vanished in Istanbul, the Hurriyet Daily News reported.
Blurry footage also shows the homeless paper collector accused of murdering her grappling with Sierra, according to the Daily Mail.

The Ellis Island Immigration Museum, which sustained severe damage to its infrastructure from the surging waters of Superstorm Sandy, is not expected to re-open to the public this year, the National Park Service said.
The Oct. 29 storm bought water levels as high as 8 feet to Ellis Island, adjacent to the home of the Statue of Liberty, destroying boilers and electrical systems.
The museum “is under repair from storm damage and will not likely be open in 2013,” the park service said Friday, as it announced that security screening for visitors to the Statue of Liberty would be moving to temporary facilities on Ellis Island.

It’s been said that nothing in this world is certain, except death and taxes. But what if you could freeze your body immediately after death and be revived in the distant future, when medical science has found a cure for your injuries or illness? You’d be able to cheat death (and perhaps your taxes)! Indeed, this is what advocates of the cryonics movement believe–so much so that they are willing to wager a lot of money and their own bodies.
Kim Suozzi was one of those people. She passed away this year, at the tender age of 23, of brain cancer. She chose to have her body frozen in the hopes that one day, she may come back to life.
