By now, America’s weight problem is well established: more than 35 percent of adults across the country are considered obese, with a BMI greater than or equal to 30. That’s more than 78 million people.
But how do those numbers shake out by state? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently mapped out the percentage of obese Americans by state using 2011 data, finding that greater percentages of obese people tend to reside in the south.
.

Least Obese State : Colorado. 20.7% of adults in Colorado were reported as being obese.

Restless legs syndrome is a common problem, affecting some 12 million Americans in the United States. But research suggests that many people with the condition may go undiagnosed — largely because they either don’t recognize the symptoms or misattribute them to stress, aging, muscle cramps, or arthritis, according to the National Institutes of Health.

The so-called Maiden mummy of a 15-year-old Incan girl who was sacrificed 500 years ago is giving up some secrets, revealing the teenager suffered from a bacterial lung infection at the time of her death, scientists report.
The researchers analyzed tissue proteins, rather than DNA, from the Maiden and another young Inca mummy who died at the same time.

Suicide has surpassed car accidents as the No. 1 cause of injury-related death in the United States, according to new research.
From 2000 to 2009, the death rate for suicide ticked up 15 percent while it decreased 25 percent for car wrecks, the study found. Improved traffic safety measures might be responsible for the decline in car-crash deaths. As such, the researchers said similar attention and resources are needed to prevent suicide and other injury-related mortality.
