Chi-raq is not an easy film to critique.  It’s based on a 2,000 year old Greek play and has a lot of controversy around the film, not to mention a stigma attached to the director, Spike Lee.  I will try to report the facts as I saw them.  Probably at this point, not many have heard or seen this movie.  You may not have even heard of the Greek play from which it was derived.

Based on a true story, Trumbo is about an era in Hollywood that referred to “The Hollywood Blacklist” or the “Entertainment Black List”.  This list was dedicated to Hollywood producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, musicians and other entertainment professionals who were suspected of belonging to or politically sympathizing with the American Communist Party.  The House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) was created in 1938 to investigate and carry out the elimination of Communist sympathizers in America.  The first Hollywood Blacklist was created in November of 1947, immediately after ten writers and directors refused to give testimony to the HUAC.  These ten were called the “Hollywood Ten”.  Senator Joseph McCathy conducted the “Witch Hunt” on all those suspected.  His paranoia and over zealousness became known as “McCarthyism”.  Many lives were destroyed during that time.  One of the Hollywood Ten was Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) known for Breaking Bad, who gives a…

For earthlings, the existence of life on another planet is an age-old question. Before launching into space Dec. 15, British astronaut Tim Peake told the Guardian the world is most likely close to discovering single-cell organisms that live on other planets — only they won’t be little and green like pop culture depicts. Or will they?

NASA agrees, but sets the deadline at 2045. In order to verify life on planets, astronomers need to understand how the compounds on other planets and the stars surrounding them work, according to a 2014 NASA article. Hint: That has yet to happen.

But that doesn’t stop the Internet from going crazy whenever a slightly suggestive photo surfaces. Below are six images taken by NASA and civilians that still have people believing there’s life elsewhere.

Jaxon Emmett Buell was only expected to live a few days after he was diagnosed with microhydranencephaly, a rare disorder that affects the brain. But the one-year old, whose condition led him to be born with a partial brain and skull, is thriving.
