It’s no secret that our bodies change as we age. Muscle mass and strength decline, it takes longer to recover from hard efforts, and our capacity to handle high training volumes can diminish. On top of that, mobility decreases and we become more prone to certain injuries. When an older athlete stops training, their fitness deteriorates significantly quicker than it did when they were young—and building it back is much harder.
Your training needs don’t change as you get older. You still want to build cardiovascular capacity, strength, and functional mobility. But the way you approach those goals needs to be tailored to the individual, depending on your current fitness level, injury state, and other lifestyle factors. We asked two experts about how your training regimen should evolve as you age.

Note: THE KARAKORAM HIGHWAY
The attributes of this unbelievable roadway, the Karakoram Highway, extending from Pakistan to China, is fast becoming recognized as the 8th man-made wonder of the world. Known informally as the KKH, it is the highest paved international road in the world. I would not like to have to drive this road in the daytime, let alone at night. Yikes!!!
At its peak, near the China/Pakistan border, it is considered to be one of the world’s hardest alpine climbs. The Karakorum Highway connects China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountain range via the Khunjerab Pass. Its maximum elevation is 4,693 meters (15,397 feet) above sea level.
810 Pakistani and 82 Chinese workers lost their lives in landslides and falls while building the highway.
The route of the KKH traces one of the many paths of the ancient Silk Road and has a total length of approximately 1,300 Km. (800 miles). 887 Km. (551 miles) in Pakistan and 413 Km. (257 miles) in China. It was started in 1959 and completed 27 years later in 1986.

In the bleak, almost pristine land at the edge of the world, there are the frozen remains of human bodies – and each one tells a story of humanity’s relationship with this inhospitable continent.
Even with all our technology and knowledge of the dangers of Antarctica, it can remain deadly for anyone who goes there. Inland, temperatures can plummet to nearly -90C (-130F). In some places, winds can reach 200mph (322km/h). And the weather is not the only risk.
Many bodies of scientists and explorers who perished in this harsh place are beyond the reach of retrieval. Some are discovered decades or more than a century later. But many that were lost will never be found, buried so deep in ice sheets or crevasses that they will never emerge – or they are headed out towards the sea within creeping glaciers and calving ice.
