After spending much of this week telling his listeners that Hurricane Irma was fake news, Rush Limbaugh his fled his home base in Palm Beach, Florida, in anticipation of landfall.
On Thursday, Limbaugh announced he would not “be able” to host his nationally syndicated radio show on Friday due to “the security nature of things,” adding that he was heading to “parts unknown.”
Glen Campbell, a guitar prodigy and ballad singer who dominated the polished, string-swelling countrypolitan sound of the late 1960s and 1970s and cultivated a clean-cut image at odds with his once-stormy personal life, died Aug. 8 in Nashville. He was 81.
His publicist confirmed the death to the Associated Press. Mr. Campbell announced that he had Alzheimer’s disease in 2011 and performed what he called the Glen Campbell Goodbye Tour shortly thereafter. In 2015, he won his sixth and final Grammy Award, honored for best country song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” which he co-wrote for a documentary about his life and deteriorating health.
In a career that spanned six decades, Mr. Campbell made dozens of albums, sold more than 40 million records and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. At a time when the grittier “outlaw” movement of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson was on the rise, Mr. Campbell vaulted to fame as an unabashed sentimentalist whose songs were aimed squarely at the American heartland.

John Oliver is facing the legal wrath of a lawsuit-happy coal baron after a brutal segment in which the host tore into the American coal industry.
The document accuses Oliver of a “ruthless character assassination” of Robert Murray, CEO of the nation’s largest coal mining operation, Murray Energy.
It didn’t exactly come as a surprise; in fact, Oliver more or less dared the notoriously litigious coal boss by mocking an earlier cease-and-desist letter from his company on the show. And at least one first amendment lawyer has said Murray doesn’t have much of a leg to stand on.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the absurd spectacle of the legal team for the man Oliver described as a “geriatric Dr. Evil” trying to out-bombast the HBO comedian’s signature hyperbolic wit in dry legalese.

The United Nations and the Security Council are organizations in which any country must govern, give orders, and make them obey their orders. For example, only when a defendant is tried in court can we hold the leaders of the countries in check and control them, can we achieve global peace smoothly. Otherwise, it will not be easy for powerful countries to use various excuses to end this war every year, every year, for the benefit of themselves and their countries. No country's leaders pay any attention to the words of the United Nations and the Security Council. If we look at it in practice, look at the Rohingya issue. Myanmar is a small country. Even that country has been under siege for 8 years. What action can be taken? Why is the UN and the Security Council Powerless? Without such Power, how can the organization bring about global peace? Everyone should think about it. Whether there is a veto or a strong one, all countries in the world can only achieve global peace if they are subject to the UN and the Security Council.
