You need to read more books.

When I tell people this, most say, “Oh, yes, for sure, yes.” But then two seconds later, they say “I just wish I had the time.”

Well, you know what? I’m calling shenanigans on that excuse. Because the truth is we do have the time. A University of California report shows we’re consuming more information now than we ever have before — more than 100,000 words per day. Think about how many texts and alerts and notifications and work emails and personal emails and news headlines and fly-by tickers and blog feeds and Twitter spews and Instagram comments you’re reading each day.

With all that garbage reading, who has time for books anymore?

Wake up, people: You’re fooling yourself about sleep, study says

Hey, sleepyheads. What you believe about sleep may be nothing but a pipe dream.

Many of us have notions about sleep that have little basis in fact and may even be harmful to our health, according to researchers at NYU Langone Health’s School of Medicine, who conducted a study published Tuesday in the journal Sleep Health.

“There’s such a link between good sleep and our waking success,” said lead study investigator Rebecca Robbins, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Population Health at NYU Langone Health. “And yet we often find ourselves debunking myths, whether it’s to news outlets, friends, family or a patient.”

What the Grocery Stores Holding Their Own Against Amazon Are Doing Right

The fight for the $800 billion U.S. grocery industry has just begun. Amazon has shaken up the playing field, but traditional grocers have been slow to embrace technologies for online ordering, fulfillment, and delivery. Today online orders make up just 2% of grocery sales (in retail overall, the number is 10%). But e-commerce is quickly growing: Some analysts estimate that by 2025, 20% of grocery purchases will be made online.

And although Amazon/Whole Foods looms large, the e-commerce giant is far from the decided winner. In the past year Walmart, Kroger, Costco, and Target have driven down costs and introduced delivery capabilities in new regions, cutting into Amazon’s market share. Meanwhile, new business models are thriving. Six-year-old Instacart, for example, has secured a $7.6 billion valuation and a loyal following by building a platform for grocery delivery and partnering with more than 300 retailers.

The Arizona Cardinals chose University of Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first pick in the National Football League college draft on Thursday night in Nashville, Tennessee, uniting Murray with a coach who many experts say is a perfect fit.

Murray — a two-sport star at Oklahoma — became the first athlete ever to have been chosen in the top 10 selections of both the NFL and Major League Baseball drafts.

The San Francisco 49ers had the second pick and selected Nick Bosa, an offense-destroying defensive lineman from Ohio State University. The New York Jets took defensive lineman Quinnen Williams with the third pick. The Oakland Raiders surprised many by picking Clemson pass rusher Clelin Ferrell at 4, but the New York Giants brought the biggest shock of the first round when they selected Duke quarterback Daniel Jones at 6 to become Eli Manning’s heir apparent.
