To mark the 100-year anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, France held a spectacular World’s Fair, called the Exposition Universelle, in 1889.
As a welcome for visitors, a colossal entrance arch was constructed near the banks of the Seine: the Eiffel Tower.
Dozens of ornate pavilions and exhibition halls were erected across 240 acres, containing displays of art, crafts, industry, machines and new inventions.
In addition to showing off French achievements, the exposition also displayed exhibits from around the world, including South America, Africa and Asia.
Harper Lee has died in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama, according to Alabama news site AL.com. Her publisher HarperCollins confirmed the news, according to the New York Times. She was 89.
The author was born in Monroeville in 1926, moving to New York in the late 1940s. There, she found publishers interested in a reworked version of To Kill a Mockingbird — which was released in 1960 to critical acclaim, eventually winning a Pulitzer Prize and becoming a beloved American novel.
For a time, the novel about lawyer Atticus Finch was the author’s only book. However, the author resurfaced in the news last year when a spiritual sequel, titled Go Set a Watchman, was found among Lee’s belongings and published.

Many wine lovers claim that, in moderation, red wine promotes a healthy heart. A variety of research suggests that red wine may have a number of health benefits, including lessening the risk of certain types of cancers and helping to curb weight gain, though not all doctors agree.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the science behind that belief is largely rooted in the properties of a compound in red wine called resveratrol. , like the antioxidants also present in red wine,
“Antioxidants in red wine called polyphenols may help protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart,” explains the Mayo Clinic. “A polyphenol called resveratrol … might be a key ingredient in red wine that helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol) and prevents blood clots.”
President Barack Obama will not rush through a Supreme Court choice to replace Justice Antonin Scalia this week but will wait to nominate a candidate until the U.S. Senate is back in session, the White House said on Sunday.
“Given that the Senate is currently in recess, we don’t expect the president to rush this through this week, but instead will do so in due time once the Senate returns from their recess,” White House spokesman Eric Schultz said.
“At that point, we expect the Senate to consider that nominee, consistent with their responsibilities laid out in the United States Constitution,” he said.
Obama is traveling in California and returns to Washington on Tuesday. The Senate returns from recess on Feb. 22.

A brutal polar vortex sent temperatures plummeting to “life-threatening” lows across the Midwest and Northeast on Saturday, with millions of Americans warned of frostbite and other dangers.
The coldest air mass of the winter brought the thermometer down to minus 6 degrees overnight in Minneapolis, while New Yorkers were urged to take “extreme precautions” against wind chill.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio urged residents to check on vulnerable friends, relatives and neighbors.
Few things in life are as mystical and intriguing as the phenomenon of female multiple orgasms. The lucky women who claim to have them say they are capable of turning otherwise blah sex into a blissful slice of euphoria, and the women who don’t have them want to know the secret to unlocking their magic. Lots of men who sleep with women are similarly preoccupied with mastering the technique for their partners.
But how many IRL women are actually having multi-orgasmic bonanzas in the bedroom? And how can other women learn to do the same?
We may finally have some answers, thanks to a fresh batch of data sent to Mic from OMGYES, an organization which describes itself as “a touchable, online exploration of women’s pleasure.”
Anaya and Myla are 10-month-old sisters, and they are also twins.
“Kyle is mixed-race and I’m white, so from the word go, our friends joked: ‘What would you do if one came out dark and the other was fair,'” Hannah Yarker told the UK’s SWNS.
The fraternal twins — meaning two separate eggs were fertilized by two separate sperm, and developed in separate amniotic sacs — were born last April.
“[A]fter two weeks, it was clear Myla takes after her dad with dark skin, brown eyes and brunette locks, while Anaya is more of a mummy’s girl with a pale complexion, fair hair and light eyes,” she said.

Every week, The WorldPost asks an expert to shed light on a topic driving headlines around the world. Today, we speak with author Ben Rawlence about the refugee crisis and his work in Kenya’s Dadaab camp.
The European refugee crisis is just one part of a larger crisis playing out along borders and in camps across the world.
A record 60 million people worldwide are currently forcibly displaced from their homes. Among them, 14 million have already spent five or more years as refugees — what the United Nations classifies as “protracted displacement.” Many eke out a life in refugee camps, and most do not have the right to work or move around freely.

Maurice White, the founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, died in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. White was 74.
“My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep,” Verdine White said in a statement on Earth, Wind & Fire’s Facebook page. “While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.”
White was born in Memphis, Tennessee on December 19, 1941. The famed singer, producer and drummer founded Earth, Wind & Fire in the 1960s. The Grammy-winning band produced many well-known hits, among them “Shining Star,” “Boogie Wonderland, “That’s The Way Of The World” and “September.”
In the world, human beings are facing various problems. People who are full of greed, anger, and ignorance are seen to be fighting with each other in words and deeds. As the fighting continues, various problems such as civil wars, wars of aggression, and wars of aggression are occurring. As world peace is being destroyed, humans are facing unbearable problems. Innocent children and women are not getting the rights they deserve and deserve. I can't think of one thing every time. What is it? The United Nations. If we look at the responsibilities and duties of the United Nations, I think it is not suitable for solving the problems that are happening in the world today. In fact, the United Nations and the World Security Council, such an organization must rule the world, must be able to give orders, and must have various ways to obey orders. There must be no organization that can influence more than that organization. There should be experts from each country. They can even dominate the superpowers like the US, China, and Britain. Only then will global peace be achieved quickly. Now, if a country with power develops more militarily, economically, or socially than its own country, then powerful countries will jealously seek out enemies and wage war. Or they will attack with fighter jets. In this, innocent people are losing their lives. No one understands the value of a life. You should think about how to achieve global peace by controlling these. If the US continues to be the permanent president of the UN, world peace will never be achieved. If you think carefully, no one sees that they are working for the common good, but for their own benefit, for the benefit of their own country. The permanent president of the UN and the Security Council has rejected this, As a young Rohingya, I have come to realize that only by electing the president and secretary from among the countries in the world through a secret ballot system and governing the world fairly can we achieve global peace. The United Nations and the Security Council are organizations in which any country must govern, give orders, and make them obey their orders. For example, only when a defendant is tried in court can we hold the leaders of the countries in check and control them, can we achieve global peace smoothly. Otherwise, it will not be easy for powerful countries to use various excuses to end this war every year, every year, for the benefit of themselves and their countries. No country's leaders pay any attention to the words of the United Nations and the Security Council. If we look at it in practice, look at the Rohingya issue. Myanmar is a small country. Even that country has been under siege for 8 years. What action can be taken? Why is the UN and the Security Council Powerless? Without such Power, how can the organization bring about global peace? Everyone should think about it. Whether there is a veto or a strong one, all countries in the world can only achieve global peace if they are subject to the UN and the Security Council. Seek peace in the quiet embrace of nature. Peace is an indispensable need of the human race. It is not as if one person can kill another person, and it is as if one country can attack another country, but instead of trying to build peace, we must try to destroy the peace now, and the world is getting hotter and is on the verge of collapse. I especially appeal to all the world experts to urgently try to bring about peace in all parts of the world. Mr, Noor Muhamed Arkhan Rohingya Youth Myanmar
