With flu season making it’s earliest start in years, and certain strains of the virus hitting unlucky Americans hard this year, it’s important to be extra vigilant in your efforts to avoid catching it.
I recently got this question emailed to me by a concerned viewer:
Q: When is someone who has the flu contagious?
Some people who are infected with the influenza virus can actually transmit the illness before they begin to feel any symptoms.
Most of the time, you will become contagious about 24 to 72 hours after contracting the influenza virus and remain that way for up to five days after the onset of symptoms.

It’s Albert Einstein’s weirdest prediction — that the universe is sprinkled with massive objects so dense that not even light can escape them. Although Einstein was skeptical the theory was true, it has held for over a century. Today, astronomers are fairly convinced that nearly every galaxy (including our own) harbors a black hole so massive that it gobbles down any nearby gas and dust, often ripping stars to shreds. And while no one has seen a black hole directly, astronomers might finally be on the brink of doing just that.
For the next 10 days, eight radio observatories at six locations across the globe will be pointed toward the supermassive black hole that hides in the Milky Way’s center. Should the weather cooperate at these observatories — which span the peak of the world’s tallest volcano in Hawaii, the frigid landscape at the South Pole, and the ski-covered slopes of the Sierra Nevada in Spain — astronomers will collect data at a scale never attempted before in physics.

It’s a busy time for Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.
On March 28, NASA released stunning new photos of Jupiter taken by Juno, the basketball court-sized space probe that’s been orbiting the gas giant since last July. And on April 7, Jupiter will make its closest approach to Earth this year, coming to within about 414 million miles of our home planet and appearing extraordinarily bright in the night sky.
Jupiter will rise in the East around sunset and will be visible all night, weather permitting.
No special equipment is needed to enjoy this Jovian close-up, a phenomenon astronomers call Jupiter “at opposition” because the planet and the sun are on opposite sides of Earth. But if you have binoculars, it should be possible to see the massive planet and also its four largest moons: Callisto, Europa, Ganymede, and Io. With even a basic telescope, you should be able to make out Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, a vast storm that’s roughly twice the size of Earth.

Lina Medina was born to a poor Peruvian family in 1933 and only 5 years old when doctors found what they believed to be a large stomach tumor. After a series of tests, it turned out Lina had a condition called “precocious puberty” and had actually been pregnant for seven months. She gave birth to a healthy, six-pound son just weeks later, by Caesarean section, as her pelvis was too small for a natural birth. The boy was named Gerardo, after the doctor who delivered him.

Facebook is launching an educational tool as part of measures it is taking to counter fake news.
For three days, an ad will appear at the top of users’ news feeds linking to advice on “how to spot fake news” and report it.
The campaign, which will be promoted in 14 countries, is “designed to help people become more discerning readers”, the social media firm said.
But experts questioned whether the measure would have any real impact.
“Until Facebook stops rewarding the architects of fake news with huge traffic, this problem will just get worse,” Tom Felle, a lecturer in digital journalism at City University told the BBC.

Pierce Brosnan’s personal tragedies have permanently influenced his outlook on life.
The actor, who grew up in Ireland, lost his first wife Cassandra to ovarian cancer in 1991. In 2013, 22 years later, the same disease took his daughter Charlotte. So when it comes to his outlook on life, the actor admits he’s not one to always look for the positive.
“I don’t look at the cup as half full, believe me,” Brosnan, 63, tells Esquire. “The dark, melancholy Irish black dog sits beside me from time to time.”
The actor has a son, actor Sean Brosnan, 33, with his late wife and adopted her two children, Charlotte and Christopher, 44. After Cassandra’s death, Brosnan married his current wife Keely Shaye Smith, with whom he has two sons: Dylan, 20, and Paris, 16.
