Las Vegas represents possibility, optimism and temptation. It’s a city with lights running through its veins and creativity pumping in its heart. That said, it’s really no surprise that Vegas also happens to be a city that is fully embracing technology.
Below, we explore what some of today’s most exciting technologies may mean for the next ten years of this larger-than-life slice of America.
Vegas VR
A high-tech mindset isn’t new for Vegas: The city has long played host to the annual CES event, a launch pad for some of the world’s most innovative and disruptive technologies. And virtual reality, one of the hottest buzzwords in the tech industry, has been hogging the spotlight of CES’ stages for the past several years.
The Vegas VR app and 360 video tours on GeoVegas are proof positive that Vegas and VR are a match made in virtual heaven, but there are many more immersive possibilities for the future. Think: fully virtual casinos where you can choose your own adventure, scenery and companions; entire concerts experienced front-row from the comfort of your hotel suite; and virtual reality restaurants that enable you to dine wherever in the world you desire.

Clouds Architecture Office has unveiled plans for a futuristic skyscraper dubbed the “Analemma Tower.” The building would hover majestically above the ground because it would be attached — wait for it — to an actual asteroid, in space, that is forcibly put into orbit around the Earth.
.
If that’s not enough to digest, consider that your exact address in this pendulous pad could be anywhere on Earth.
The tower will be suspended via high-strength cabling from an asteroid and placed in “eccentric geosynchronous orbit”. In other words, it would be always moving — residents and visitors would take a daily journey between the northern and southern hemispheres with a prolonged visit over a main “home” point like New York City or Dubai (it’s always New York City or Dubai, isn’t it?)

Erin Moran, the former child actor who played the sweet but mischievous Joanie on the television series “Happy Days” and “Joanie Loves Chachi,” has died. She was 56.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department in southern Indiana confirmed her death. Ms. Moran was found unresponsive Saturday afternoon and died in her home in New Salisbury, Ind., the authorities said.
An autopsy showed that she most likely died from complications of cancer, the sheriff’s department said in a statement on Monday.
Ms. Moran, who started acting at 5, got her first taste of television in a commercial for First Federal Bank. She went on to play minor characters on television and in film in the late 1960s and early ’70s. At 12, she landed her biggest role: Joanie, the freckle-faced troublemaker and sister of Richie Cunningham, the all-American teenager played by Ron Howard.

The Powerful Osprey
BOTH THE BIRD AND THE PHOTOGRAPHY ARE INCREDIBLE
Unbelievable how strong these guys are!
Hard to believe this Osprey got 5-6 fish at a time and then got a flounder under 3 feet of water and made off with what looks to be a 5+ lbs steel head. Have you ever seen a bird shake water off like a dog does? Wouldn’t want to get in its way when its eyes are locked onto you and talons in the “load” position! It’s talons are amazing!
There are 3 sequences in this one video:
1st sequence – catches half a dozen fish in one strike.
2nd sequence – plunges talons into deep water to grab the prey.
3rd sequence – captures a big old fish that looks as if it weighs more than he does!

A compound found in the protective slime of an Indian frog blows apart flu viruses and might become a powerful new drug to treat influenza, researchers reported Tuesday.
The compound, a small structure called a peptide, cured mice of killer doses of human flu, the research team reported in the journal Immunity.
They hope to develop it and other compounds like it into antiviral drugs to treat people.
“This peptide kills the viruses. It kind of blows them up,” Joshy Jacob of Emory University, who led the study team, told NBC News.
And it seems harmless to healthy tissue. “There’s no collateral damage,” he said.
The team found the peptide in mucus taken from the skin of a frog species called Hydrophylax bahuvistara, found only recently in India.

In a somber remembrance ceremony filled with prayer and song, Georgetown University asked for forgiveness and took new steps to right a nearly two-hundred-year-old wrong on Tuesday.
Speaking on behalf of the school’s founding fathers, Rev. Timothy Kesicki, president of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, began the morning service offering reconciliation to the descendants of 272 women, men, and children sold into slavery to pay off school debts and keep the school afloat in 1838.
“We pray with you today because we have greatly sinned and because we are profoundly sorry,” Rev. Kesicki said. “Forgiveness is yours to bestow in your time and in your way.”
More than 100 descendants of the honored slaves attended the ceremony. Sandra Green Thomas, who wore a green ribbon in honor of her ancestors, was among them.
“Their pain was unparalleled. Their pain is still here. It burns in the soul of every person of African descent in the United States,” Thomas, the great-great-granddaughter of slaves Sam Harris and Betsy Ware Harris, said. “We the descendants return to the home place, our ancestor’s home place acknowledging contrition, offering forgiveness. Hoping for penance and more importantly seeking justice for them and ourselves.”
