Mike Foltynewicz is almost back to his All-Star form of a year ago.
Foltynewicz threw seven impressive innings, Josh Donaldson and Ronald Acuna Jr. hit homers and the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 on Monday night.
Atlanta won its 90th game, increased its lead over Washington to 9 1/2 games and reduced its magic number to 10 with 17 games remaining.
“It’s a very good number, that’s for sure,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said about matching last season’s win total. “We’ve got a lot of baseball to play, so hopefully we get a lot more.”
The Phillies fell three games behind the Cubs for the second wild-card spot in the NL.

Many people who head to the South Georgia Island have king penguin watching in mind, but they are not the only penguin species in this area. Macaroni penguins are also very prevalent here. In fact, the 3 million breeding pairs that live on South Georgia make up the largest macaroni penguin population in the world.

At least 45 people are dead, hundreds are missing and some 70,000 are homeless. There is no power or running water. Aid is arriving slowly on the island of Grand Bahama, where Dorian parked for almost two days and caused damage one usually witnesses in a war zone.
It’s impossible to fully capture the devastation we see every day. We’re only about 80 miles from Florida, but the miles of rubble Dorian left in its wake have made this part of the Bahamas feel as remote as any place on Earth.

Kids are heading back to school, which means it’s time to start packing lunches again. For busy parents, sandwiches are a popular option ― they’re quick to assemble, portable, and it’s easy to up the nutritional content with just a few additions and swaps.
We asked three registered dietitian nutritionists to rank some popular kids’ sandwiches from healthiest to least healthy and to share their recommendations for boosting the nutritional value of each option.
Before we get to the ranking:
“Ideally a sandwich offers some nutritional benefit and physical satiety so that kids are not distracted by hunger while also meeting their nutritional needs with food they enjoy,” Kathryn Riner, a pediatric dietitian and founder of Healthy Kids Nutrition, told HuffPost. “I like to recommend including a source of dietary fiber as well as protein, which can help kids feel satisfied while fueling their learning, activity and growth.”

Tuition was due. The rent was, too. So Mary Mbugua, a university student in Nyeri, Kenya, went out in search of a job. At first, she tried selling insurance policies, but that only paid on commission and she never sold one. Then she sat behind the reception desk at a hotel, but it ran into financial trouble.
Finally, a friend offered to help her break into “academic writing,” a lucrative industry in Kenya that involves doing school assignments online for college students in the United States, Britain and Australia. Ms. Mbugua felt conflicted.
“This is cheating,” she said. “But do you have a choice? We have to make money. We have to make a living.”

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Call them the Same New Jets.
The New York Jets have a new coach, a new general manager and pretty much a new everything, but their collapse Sunday was straight out of 2018, when they blew four fourth-quarter leads. Despite a plus-three turnover margin, they lost a game that was almost impossible to lose, falling to the Buffalo Bills, 17-16, after leading 16-0 in the third quarter. They fell apart in all phases. Couldn’t get a stop on defense. Couldn’t make a kick. Couldn’t throw downfield. It was a brutal way to open the season.
Describe the game in two words: Choke job. They lacked a killer instinct, especially on offense. There was no aggressiveness and no imagination.
Buy on a breakout performance: Le’Veon Bell scored a touchdown, a 2-point conversion and produced 92 total yards from scrimmage in his Jets debut, his first game in 20 months. Bell played the entire game, which is pretty impressive. He showed little rust and was particularly effective in the passing game. He scored on a 9-yard catch and made a terrific grab on a 2-point conversion.

Angelina Jolie may be a better actress and director, but Michelle Obama’s got her beat in one category — this year, at least. The former first lady beat out Jolie as the world’s most admired woman in an annual study conducted by online research firm YouGov.
Obama topped the list this year, while Jolie — who was first last year — came in third.
Oprah Winfrey was second.
Also included in the top 10 of most admired women are Queen Elizabeth II, actress Emma Watson, activist Malala Yousafzai and chemist Tu Youyou.

China’s leader, Xi Jinping, warned a gathering of senior Communist Party officials in January that the country faced a raft of urgent economic and political risks, and told them to be on guard especially for “indolence, incompetence and becoming divorced from the public.”
Now, after months of political tumult in Hong Kong, the warning seems prescient. Only it is Mr. Xi himself and his government facing criticism that they are mishandling China’s biggest political crisis in years, one that he did not mention in his catalog of looming risks at the start of the year.
And although few in Beijing would dare blame Mr. Xi openly for the government’s handling of the turmoil, there is quiet grumbling that his imperious style and authoritarian concentration of power contributed to the government’s misreading of the scope of discontent in Hong Kong, which is only growing.
