The world’s oldest stone tools have been discovered, scientists report.
They were unearthed from the shores of Lake Turkana in Kenya, and date to 3.3 million years ago.
They are 700,000 years older than any tools found before, even pre-dating the earliest humans in the Homo genus.
The find, reported in Nature, suggests that more ancient species, such as Australopithecus afarensis or Kenyanthropus platyops, may have been more sophisticated than was thought.

CAROL's WORLDS
San Andreas is another natural disaster movie for which we can do nothing about. The story revolves around the broken family of a helicopter rescue pilot, a Caltech Seismologist, a reporter, 2 youngsters visiting from England, a real estate developer and most of California and Nevada. Dr. Lawrence Hayes (Paul Giamatti) and his his colleague Dr. Kim Park (Will Yun Lee) have discovered that their research has paid off when they are able to predict earthquakes. Hoover Dam was the first to be hit with a 7.1 earthquake, killing almost everyone in the area and destroying the entire Dam. Because of the quake, Raymond (Dwayne Johnson) was called in to assist in the rescue efforts, preventing him from accompanying his daughter, Blake (Alexandra Daddario) on a trip to San Francisco. Instead she hitched a flight with her wealthy step father to be, Daniel Riddick (Ioan Gruffudd). Once…

Former FIFA executive Chuck Blazer admitted in 2013 to accepting bribes related to South Africa’s 2010 World Cup bid, according to court filings released Wednesday.
Blazer, who worked with the Department of Justice to single out other FIFA officials in connection to corruption charges, told the Eastern District New York Court that he and others on FIFA’s executive committee agreed to take bribes from South Africa in relation to the country’s World Cup bid.
“Among other things, I agreed with other persons in or around 1992 to facilitate the acceptance of a bribe in conjunction with the selection of the host nation for the 1998 World Cup,” he told Judge Raymond J. Dearie.

Every week, The WorldPost asks an expert to shed light on a topic that’s making headlines around the world. Today, we speak with investigative journalist Anabel Hernández.
As one of Mexico’s leading investigative journalists, Anabel Hernández has dedicated the past decade to investigating her country’s drug war — one of the most dangerous projects a reporter could ask for. Her 2010 book Los señores del narco, translated into English as Narcoland, detailed the extensive government corruption that allowed Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and his Sinaloa cartel to become one of the most powerful criminal enterprises in the world.
Working in partnership with journalist Steve Fisher at The Investigative Reporting Program (IRP) at U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism , Hernández has also been at the forefront of one of the leading investigative reports into the case of the missing 43 students from the Ayotzinapa teachers college who were attacked by Mexican police in September.

Lethal wounds on an ancient human skull may point to one of the oldest cases of murder on record, a new study reports.
The skull, 430,000 years old, was found deep in an underground cave system at Sima de los Huesos, an archaeological site in northern Spain. The small chamber is accessible only through a vertical shaft 43 feet deep.
Composed of about 50 fragments, the nearly complete skull is described in the current issue of the journal PLOS One.

Researchers report that the two penetrating lesions on the skull were likely caused by repeated blows from a single instrument. Javier Trueba/Madrid Scientific Films

Paris city officials started removing hundreds of thousands of “love locks” yesterday from Pont Des Arts bridge. What became a symbol of undying love between couples, who travel from all over the world to fasten a lock onto the bridge then throw the key into the River Seine, is now no more. Not only are they removing the locks from Pont Des Art, they are also removing them from the Pont de l’Archeveche, which is near the Notre Dame cathedral. When I first heard about this I was a bit shocked and sadden because in the back of my mind I always wanted to do this (with my future husband of course). However, after reading that part of the bridge collapsed last year due to the weight of all the locks, I understood why they are doing it. Now my future husband and I have to come up with another cute custom to…

Russia and Qatar lost the strongest supporter of their bids to host the next two World Cups when FIFA President Sepp Blatter resigned his post on Tuesday, casting further doubt on whether the controversy-marred tournaments would be played as scheduled.
FIFA is now likely to face further calls for a revote on both tournaments, or a transparent probe into how they were awarded.
Qatar and Russia were both named hosts in a joint bidding process in 2010, the first time countries have been awarded the quadrennial event at the same time.

A new bionic lens implant could give patients the unique ability to see three times better than standard 20/20 vision for the rest of their lives.
Dr. Garth Webb, founder and CEO of Ocumetics Technology Corp, a company committed to eliminating glasses and contact lenses for patients, invented the Ocumetics Bionic Lens, which resembles a small button.
The procedure, which can be done in an outpatient office, takes just eight minutes and is painless, according to Webb.
