The three victims from the shooting rampage Tuesday were white, and apparently chosen at random, police said. The suspect, Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, is black.
.
Muhammad had posted on social media a dislike for white people and government officials, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. He also yelled “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest) when he was arrested Tuesday, officials said.
“We do not believe … that this is a terrorist-related crime,” Dyer told reporters. “This is solely based on race.”
.
The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
.
The shootings started around 10:45 a.m. local time.
.
Muhammad fired 16 rounds within 60 to 90 seconds, Dyer said.

The mayor, one of three patrons in this small town bar on a Monday night, lights his cigarette. He knows it’s illegal to smoke in here.
“I don’t give a s–t,” says the honorable Greg Janzen.
The town is Emerson, Manitoba. The bar is a literal two minute walk to the United States border.
For the past few months, it has become a hotbed for people illegally crossing the border into Canada.
And Janzen is angry.
Most had come to the U.S. from halfway around the world to seek asylum, but said they feared a crackdown under President Donald Trump. So they continued north, where Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made it clear that such asylum seekers are welcome.

Donald Trump may have had a rocky first three weeks in office, but they now look like a blissful honeymoon compared to the fourth one.
Amid a flurry of leaks and reports of staff disarray, Trump suffered his first defeat on a Cabinet nomination, withdrawing his choice for labor secretary. He gave up on his appeals in State of Washington v. Trump, leaving the order suspending his “travel ban” intact.
Anonymous aides portrayed the nation’s CEO roaming the White House alone at night in his bathrobe, watching cable news obsessively, and calling his national security adviser Michael Flynn at 3 a.m. to ask whether a strong or weak dollar was better for America. That same retired Lt. Gen. Flynn soon found himself defenestrated from the young administration, ostensibly for misrepresenting his contacts with the Russian ambassador during the transition.

Donald Trump speaks as Vice President Mike Pence looks at the Congress of Tomorrow Republican Member Retreat on January 26 in Philadelphia. Dean Falvy writes that Trump’s marathon press conference refocused attention on his mental competence and stability. Critics have never been shy about diagnosing Trump with various psychological conditions, the most popular being narcissistic-personality disorder. But many self-obsessed people are capable of functioning at a high level professionally, as Trump has for much of his life. But the astonishing achievement of reaching the presidency seems to have aggravated Trump’s insecurities and grievances, to the point where mental illness has become the elephant in the White House Situation Room. In his ruling, Judge William H. Orrick sided with Santa Clara County, the city of San Francisco and other jurisdictions, who argued that a threat to take away federal funds from cities that do not cooperate with some federal immigration enforcement could be unconstitutional.
.
In making the ruling apply nationwide, Orrick blocked the government from enforcing a key portion of Trump’s January executive order on immigration, which ordered the Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department to block cities who do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement from receiving federal funds.

In a move that could allow him to roll back the protection of lands designated by Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that reviews enforcement of the law that gives him power to designate lands as national monuments.
.
The order, which Trump signed at the Interior Department, could lead to the reshaping of 24 national monuments, including Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and Basin and Range National Monument, as well as a host of Pacific Ocean monuments, including the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument.
Though Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke cast the move as a way to include local voices in the decision to designate monuments, the review of the Antiquities Act — which was first signed by President Teddy Roosevelt in 1906 — stands in stark relief to years of bipartisan work at conserving lands.

Putting the care puzzle together for aging parents requires a mix of legal, financial, and governmental resources. And it’s a problem many people haven’t planned for.
In order to be able to take care of your parents from a legal perspective there are certain pieces of paper you need to have in place — and nearly half of the adult population doesn’t.

At least 13 people were killed and dozens more injured as storms tore through Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi over the weekend, spawning tornadoes and floods that left a trail of devastation.
.
Tornadoes tore roofs off homes, ripped trees out of the ground and tossed cars “around like toys,” one witness said. Floods swept cars off the road and downed trees and power lines that flattened homes.
The storms were expected to move into Alabama Sunday evening and continue along a path extending to Michigan. A severe weather warning is in effect through Monday, putting 22 million people in six states from North Carolina to New York at risk of isolated tornadoes, high winds and large hail.

On President Trump’s 100th day in office, thousands of climate activists descended on Washington, D.C., to send the president a message — climate change is real.
Demonstrators braved temperatures above the 90s Saturday to march down Pennsylvania Avenue, chanting “water is life” and “keep it in the soil, can’t drink oil!” The gathering, already a familiar sight during Trump’s nascent presidency, came together under the banner of the People’s Climate March.
Participants surrounded the White House complex and staged a choreographed sit-in, beating their chests 100 times to symbolize both the president’s time in office and the heartbeat of the environmental movement. Trump was in residence at the time.
The Sierra Club helped organize the event, which drew celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, former vice president Al Gore and climate and clean water activists like Mari Copeny, best known as Little Miss Flint.

This past weekend, something kind of incredible happened; basketball aficionados from across the globe were able to don high-tech goggles to live-stream stereoscopic virtual reality of a highly paid athlete receiving a bounce pass from a custom-designed drone to perform a highly technical slam dunk.
This is the NBA in 2017.
New technologies have always played a major role in how sports organizations attract new audiences and build closer ties between players and fans. This past weekend, the NBA’s tech initiatives were on full display in New Orleans at the sight of the NBA All-Star game.
The new technologies powering efforts on the floor were awesome and plentiful but when I arrived I was interested about the combination of using new tech to enable crazy experiences on the court while also drawing on technologies that allow viewers at home to get closer than ever to the action.
This all centered around a dunk. The NBA Slam Dunk Contest defending-champ, 21-year-old Orlando Magic player Aaron Gordon, was set to perform one of the craziest dunks yet, a high-flying drone-assisted shot that relied on the most intimate of communications between man and machine.

Mayer, who has failed to turn the Internet pioneer around in five years as CEO, is expected to step aside when Verizon completes its $4.5 billion purchase of Yahoo.
She has a total of 4.5 million shares of Yahoo stock and options, plus restricted stock that will vest when the Verizon deal goes through, according to a filing on Monday. Yahoo said last week it expected the deal to close in June.
Once Mayer pays to exercise her options, she’ll be left with $186 million, based on Yahoo (YHOO, Tech30) stock’s closing price of $48.15 a share on Monday.
She will also get a $3 million golden parachute — cash severance that accompanies the sale of the company. The companies announced the sale in July 2016.
