Kathy Griffin will not be back as co-host of CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve program, the network announced Wednesday.
CNN’s decision comes one day after photos were released of Griffin that showed the comedian holding up a bloody head resembling that of President Donald Trump.
“CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program,” the network said in a statement.
Griffin has apologized for the photos, taken by provocative celebrity photographer Tyler Shields.
“I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far,” she said in a video posted to Instagram late Tuesday. “I made a mistake and I was wrong.”

Donald Trump has been active on Twitter since his return from his first overseas trip as president. And he kept the ball rolling with a tweet shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning.
But it is not at all clear what the president was tweeting about.
“Despite the negative press covfefe,” Trump wrote, and nothing more. The tweet was deleted later Wednesday morning, but only after it had been up for several hours.

Donald Trump’s first trip abroad as president showed “how quickly and decisively” he “is acting to strengthen alliances,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday.
But if Trump strengthened America’s alliances in Europe, no one told America’s European allies. Instead, in remarks ranging from cautionary to disparaging, European heads of state have described a churlish, impulsive American leader whose actions have alienated them and threaten to upend the U.S.-led post-World War II international order.
Interacting with Trump showed German Prime Minister Angela Merkel “that we Europeans truly have to take our fate into our own hands,” she said Sunday. Newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron’s noticeably tense and lengthy handshake with Trump was a deliberate effort to “show that we won’t make little concessions, even symbolic ones,” he told a French outlet in an interview published Sunday. And as Spicer boasted of the president’s successful alliance-building, a picture of European heads of state openly mocking the U.S. president was making its way around Twitter. In a photograph that quickly went viral, the prime ministers of Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland gathered around a soccer ball in a pose that bore an obvious resemblance to a recent picture of Trump and the heads of Egypt and Saudi Arabia placing their hands on a glowing orb to symbolize counterterrorism cooperation.

One Florida man has taken it upon himself to help restore a Tampa graveyard and its veterans’ headstones.
Though he has never served in the military, Andrew Lumish, 46, spends his little free time scrubbing and cleaning soldiers’ gravestones — some dating back to the Civil War — in the L’Unione Italiana Cemetery.
Known as “The Good Cemeterian,” Lumish found the headstones while pursuing his passion for photography. He thought they were beautiful but was bothered by the amount of dirt, mold and mildew that had overtaken them. Some of the men buried there did not have families to take care of their gravesites, so he stepped in to provide a little elbow grease and honor the fallen veterans.

The Northwest has a rich history of organized white racism dating more than three decades, but the man accused of an anti-Muslim outburst that led to the killing of two passengers on an Oregon train last week doesn’t appear connected to the groups that have made the region their home.
Heidi Beirich, director of the Intelligence Project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups, told NBC News on Sunday that the suspect, Jeremy Joseph Christian, 35, seemed closer in profile to the people involved in the slew of racist or allegedly racist incidents apparently triggered by the campaign and election of President Donald Trump.
“A lot of people popped out of the woodwork to involve themselves in bias incidents,” she said. “They got set off by the rhetoric.”
