Collisions between particles inside the Large Hadron Collider atom smasher have created what looks like a new form of matter.
The new kind of matter is called color-glass condensate, and is a liquidlike wave of gluons, which are elementary particles related to the strong force that sticks quarks together inside protons and neutrons (hence they are like “glue”).

Guatemalan police arrested U.S. software guru John McAfee on Wednesday for illegally entering the country and said it would expel him to neighboring Belize, which he fled after being sought for questioning over his neighbor’s murder.
McAfee, who had been in hiding for three weeks, crossed into Guatemala with his girlfriend, Samantha, to evade authorities in Belize who wanted to question him as “a person of interest” about the killing of fellow American Gregory Faull.

If the idea that matter can be organized in a way that’s similar to binary code seems implausible, get ready for a shock: It can. An MIT team has created a milli-motein — a tiny device made of millimeter-sized components with a motorized design inspired by proteins. Milli-moteins can naturally fold themselves into almost any shape imaginable.
Researchers at MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms have created milli-motein — a manifestation of raw digital data that could create transformable robots. However, instead of pop-culture robots that can transform into giant cars or airplanes, these could result in material changes that might one day transform the world.

When NYPD Officer Larry DePrimo bought boots for a homeless man who had blisters “the size of his palm,” he never expected anything in return.
But now that a photo of the cop’s act of kindness has surfaced, the Internet is swelling with praise for the do-gooder who says he was spurred to action when he saw people laughing at the man on the 35-degree night, according to the New York Post.

Several Harvard students received a racist pamphlet on Friday advertising a club to which ‘no f***ing jews’ were allowed but “coloreds” were “ok” the Harvard Crimson reported.
The pamphlets, which were delivered in sealed envelopes under students’ dorm room doors, advertised “Harvard’s Newest Final Club” i.e. one of Harvard’s 14 single sex social clubs. The club, called the “Pigeon” (perhaps a play on the Final Club propensity to name their establishments after animals) was ostensibly promoting a party situated in a local frozen yogurt shop. The attire was dubbed “Semi-bro.”

Police identified the second victim in the murder-suicide as 22-year-old Kasandra M. Perkins. Perkins died in a hospital of multiple gunshot wounds. She was Belcher’s girlfriend and mother of their 3-month-old daughter.
There was no immediate information on a motive in the slayings.
Kansas City police spokesman Darin Spann said Belcher shot Perkins at a suburban home and then drove five miles to the team’s practice facility in Kansas City, Mo. Confronted by Chiefs personnel with police arriving on the scene, Belcher thanked general manager Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel for their help.
Belcher then stepped away, put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

The Pessah family has something particularly special to be thankful for this year. Their son, 21-year-old Benjamin Pessah from Burlingame, Calif., awoke from a month-long coma just in time to eat a Thanksgiving meal with his family after being shot in the head last month.
According to the New York Daily News, Pessah was walking home with his girlfriend and two other friends from a Halloween party in San Francisco on October 28 when a man — Hun Saelee — allegedly approached the group and touched Pessah’s girlfriend inappropriately.

A New Jersey city that reported a murder rate of 46.8 per 100,000 people in 2010 is now without a police department.
Camden, N.J., often dubbed the most dangerous city in the country, is disbanding its police department in a bid to shave millions of dollars off the annual budget, FoxNews.com reported Sunday. The department will be replaced with the non-union “Metro Division” of the Camden County Police, which police unions in the area say is “definitely a form of union-busting.”
