A jury has found Aaron Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.
On Wednesday, Judge E. Susan Garsh sentenced Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end, to life without the possibility of parole for killing Lloyd on June 17, 2013. The sentence was mandatory.
The jury found that the ex-NFL player merited the conviction by “reason of extreme atrocity or cruelty.”

Never underestimate the power of positive thinking.
In a YouTube video he posted on Wednesday, 20-year-old Peter Foster promotes a message of optimism, despite a large number of disabilities he lives with on a daily basis. Foster has undergone 40-60 surgeries, he wrote on his YouTube page, to treat over 25 diagnoses. But, despite all that, he keeps looking forward.
“I’m still loving life because it could always be worse,” he says.

A tentative deal has been reached by senators on a bill to apply congressional oversight to a nuclear deal with Iran.
Under the deal, the president would still be required to submit any final agreement before Congress and Congress would continue to have a say over whether he can lift sanctions on Iran in exchange for restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program. But the new deal, hammered out between Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, would reduce the time frame the Senate has to consider the lifting of sanctions — from 60 days to 52 at most — and would keep demands on Iran limited primarily to its nuclear program and not, for example, against its sponsorship of terrorism.
An aide to Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, sent over the details of the new bill. It still may face a veto from the president, who has generally opposed efforts to restrict his flexibility when it comes to executing a deal with Iran.

The state of Indiana has hired a global public relations firm to help rebuild its image in the wake of national criticism that state politicians were hostile to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation, which leads the state’s efforts to attract and retain businesses, has retained Porter Novelli for an undisclosed sum. The firm’s task is to brand Indiana “as a welcoming place to live, visit and do business.”
“Now more than ever, we want to remind the world that Hoosiers welcome everyone and that Indiana is a great place for individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses to reach their full potential,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Victor Smith, who leads the IEDC. “That’s why we are moving forward with this initiative together.”

When life gets busy, one of the first things to go in a relationship is sex. Couples are too tired, too full, too stressed, too distracted. Simply put: not in the mood.
We get it — there are a million and one legitimate reasons not to have sex tonight, tomorrow or the day after that. But there are plenty of couples out there who are doing the deed five, six, seven or more times a week. We recently asked married HuffPost readers who have sex every night (barring things like sickness, business trips or other extenuating circumstances, of course) how it has improved their lives and relationships.

The discovery of strange, mineral veins on Mars has planetary scientists buzzing. And no wonder: the find may shed new light on the Red Planet’s watery past and could even help reveal whether Mars was once habitable.
NASA’s Curiosity rover spotted the prominent veins in “Garden City.” That’s the name scientists use for a geologically rich site on towering Mount Sharp (Aeolis Mons), a mountain that rises almost 3.5 miles off the Martian surface.
A composite image of the veins was made by combining 28 separate photos taken on March 18, 2015 by the right-eye camera of the rover’s Mastcam instrument.

President Barack Obama opened up about his so-called “Obama doctrine,” the overarching principle that guides his foreign policy in places like the Middle East where his administration recently negotiated a framework of a deal with Iran over its nuclear program, and Cuba where the U.S. recently loosened long-standing travel restrictions.
“We are powerful enough to be able to test these propositions without putting ourselves at risk. And that’s the thing … people don’t seem to understand,” Obama said in an interview with New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman published Sunday.
“You take a country like Cuba. For us to test the possibility that engagement leads to a better outcome for the Cuban people, there aren’t that many risks for us. It’s a tiny little country. It’s not one that threatens our core security interests, and so [there’s no reason not] to test the proposition. And if it turns out that it doesn’t lead to better outcomes, we can adjust our policies,” he said.

While only used in conflict twice, the devastating effect of nuclear weapons is clear enough to have changed the course of history and redefined how states think about war. Allowing countries the opportunity to wipe out massive populations at the press of a button is a terrifying reality that has led to international efforts to stop the proliferation of warheads and secure the ones that currently exist.
In the negotiations between Iran and the P5+1, the attempt to stop Iran from having the ability to attain nuclear weapons has been the chief goal of the U.S. and its allies. Iran, for its part, has cried hypocrisy that many of the powers it is negotiating with are the ones who created nuclear instability to begin with.
