Larry Hagman, who created one of American television’s most supreme villains in the conniving, amoral oilman J.R. Ewing of “Dallas,” died on Friday, according to a co-star. He was 81.
Hagman died at a Dallas hospital of complications from his battle with throat cancer, the Dallas Morning News reported, quoting a statement from his family. He had suffered from liver cancer and cirrhosis of the liver in the 1990s after decades of drinking.

by Meredith Galante and Gus Lubin As the world plunges head first into a New Gilded Age, we’re taking a look back at the first Gilded Age. One of the most impressive figures of this era was an immigrant textile worker who became the richest man in the world. We’re talking about the mighty Andrew Carnegie.

Occupy Wall Street alumni have hatched a new plan: Raise money and then bail people out of debt. The campaign, called Rolling Jubilee, kicks off Thursday night with a live-streaming telethon broadcast on the Jubilee’s web site.
While Occupy’s latest initiative may or may not succeed, Strike Debt, the group behind the Jubilee campaign, hopes to aid struggling debtors in another way: They have written a personal finance book. Unlike other educational money books, it’s not for people who have money, but for people who don’t.

Police in Bolivar, Mo. said they uncovered a young man’s plan to commit mass murder at a screening of the new “Twilight” movie.
According to court documents obtained by KCTV, Blaec Lammers planned to carry out a mass shooting at a theater in Bolivar and later decided a better location would be a Walmart, because it would have access to more ammunition.

JERUSALEM — A concerted effort of millions of attempts to cripple Israeli websites during the Gaza conflict has failed, Israel’s finance minister said Monday, claiming that the only site that was successfully hacked was back up within minutes.
Cyber security experts said that such hacking attempts have become a new aspect of modern-day warfare and states have to invest in fortifying their virtual defenses on a battleground with vague terrain.

Jon Stewart laid into the BBC on Wednesday night, quipping that the British broadcaster’s sex abuse crisis made News Corp.’s phone hacking scandal “look almost quaint.”
Last week, the director-general of the BBC George Entwistle stepped down after the program “Newsnight” wrongly accused a politician of sexual abuse. The erroneous report came soon after news broke that same program axed an investigative story outing famed British broadcaster and former BBC host Jimmy Savile as a serial child sex offender. The program aired Christmas tributes to the broadcaster instead.

Occupy Wall Street movement supporters were outraged by the bank bailout. Now they want to start a bailout that people can actually get behind.
Dubbed the Rolling Jubilee, Occupiers have created a program to buy distressed consumer debt and then erase it. That will “liberate debtors at random through a campaign of mutual support, good will, and collective refusal,” the Jubilee’s website said.

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov 15 (Reuters) – Former U.S. first lady Barbara Bush said on Thursday that she’s ready to move beyond this year’s campaign season, in comments that came at an Austin conference the week after President Barack Obama’s re-election.
“I’m tired now of the elections,” Bush, who had endorsed Republican Mitt Romney, said at a forum on America’s first ladies. “People spoke. Move on, get on with it. I want to do other things and not to be ugly.”
