Where there was once a Sandman, there now might be a Bogeyman.
At least that’s what teammate Domingo German calls New York Yankees ace Luis Severino: “The Bogeyman.” Batters, said German, take pause just hearing his name. His stuff can haunt you. And you underestimate him at your peril.
“Remember the way it was when Pedro [Martinez] was going to pitch? Everyone would be tense because Pedro was on the mound. Severino can be like that,” said German, who has gone 18-4 with a 4.09 ERA while Severino has been sidelined this season. “He’s so strong. He hates losing and loves to compete. He has all the potential to come back strong and be huge for us heading into the playoffs.”As for Severino, he was amused by the comparison. After all, Martinez was his childhood hero and is now a mentor at times.

Pete Alonso is slumping at the wrong time for the New York Mets.
And with little margin for error, their two most reliable relievers let a game get away Sunday night that might prove too much to overcome.
Jedd Gyorko came off the bench late and played a big role in rallying the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-2 victory that damaged the Mets’ dwindling playoff chances. They dropped four games behind the Chicago Cubs for the second NL wild card with 13 to go. Milwaukee is three games ahead of New York.
Finally finished with a very difficult stretch in their schedule that lasted more than five weeks, the resurgent Mets now visit also-rans Colorado and Cincinnati on their final road trip this week before hosting last-place Miami and NL East-leading Atlanta.
“We’ve got a lot of fight on this team. So I wouldn’t count us out yet,” pitcher Zack Wheeler said.

Again, again and again, the New York Yankees kept hammering away.
At the umpires — and the Cleveland Indians, too.
Manager Aaron Boone, Brett Gardner and the Yankees threw another severe temper tantrum Saturday, this time in prolonged rants that brought several members of the team spilling onto the field in a 6-5 win over the Indians.
“Kinda crazy, to be honest,” Gardner said.
Gleyber Torres hit two home runs and Didi Gregorius and DJ LeMahieu also connected for the AL East-leading Yankees.
But what really fired up the crowd of 47,347 at Yankee Stadium erupted in the sixth inning after Cameron Maybin was called out on strikes by Triple-A ump Ben May.

Beating out other pros and famous streamers, Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf, 16, made a name for himself by dominating from the first round and ultimately taking home the $3 million grand prize for individual players. That’s the largest-ever payout for a single player in an esports tournament.
After securing a victory in the first round and nine in-game kills, Giersdorf went on to rack up dozens of in-game kills each round, until he ended up with 59 points — a huge lead over the second-place winner.
“Words can’t really explain it. I’m so happy,” Giersdorf said. “Everything I’ve done in the grind has all paid off and it’s just insane.”

In an interview with Yahoo this week, Abigail Disney said she decided to check out Disneyland’s worker conditions after a worker sent her a Facebook message. She said every employee delivered a similar message to her: “I don’t know how I can maintain this face of joy and warmth when I have to go home and forage for food in other people’s garbage.”
.
After the visit, she said she was “so livid” that the company didn’t respect its workers enough.
.
The Disney heiress, who is also a filmmaker and activist, said Disney CEO Bob Iger needs to fix the huge wage gap between his pay and that of an average worker at the company.

Lyft, like Uber, built its business on the backs of drivers. Just this week, as Lyft was on its IPO roadshow, drivers for both Lyft and Uber organized a strike in Los Angeles over recent pay cuts. At the same time, the company is fighting the implementation of first-of-its-kind minimum wage law in New York City — and the debate over the classification of on-demand workers as independent contractors, and what that entitles drivers to, remains a heated issue.
.
But what happens to drivers and their concerns once the companies start feeling pressures from Wall Street to make money? Drivers and analysts tell CNN Business they aren’t so sure things will improve — although the companies would be smart to try.
.
Tim Krueger, who drives for Lyft in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said he believes the company views some of its drivers as “screaming people” to put up with until it can replace them with self-driving cars.

Interest in Impossible Foods’ plant-based meat alternative is growing so much that the company is struggling to keep up, the company said Tuesday.
.
The acknowledgment comes just after the company expanded its partnership with Burger King. Earlier this week, the fast food chain shared that it plans to sell the meatless patty as a Whopper at all of its US locations by the end of the year. Restaurant Brands International, which owns Burger King, said a St. Louis test of the Impossible Whopper went “exceedingly well.”
.
That nationwide rollout would essentially double the amount of restaurants that Impossible works with. Burger King had about 7,300 locations nationwide at the close of last year. Right now, Impossible supplies its product to about 7,000 restaurants.
