Radovan Karadzic, nicknamed the “Butcher of Bosnia,” was sentenced to 40 years in prison Thursday after being found guilty of genocide and other crimes against humanity over atrocities that Bosnian Serb forces committed during the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995.
A special U.N. court in The Hague, Netherlands, found the 70-year-old guilty of genocide over his responsibility for the Srebrenica massacre, in which more than 7,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were executed by Bosnian Serb forces under his command.
Karadzic, former leader of the breakaway Serb Republic in Bosnia, is the highest-ranking political figure to have been brought to justice over the bitter ethnic conflicts that erupted with the collapse of the former Yugoslavia.

This is James Parker Sheffield, a 36-year-old transgender man in Decatur, Georgia. On Thursday, he had some pretty pointed words for Gov. Pat McCrory after North Carolina passed an anti-trans law mandating every person in the state to use the bathroom that correspond to their assigned gender at birth.
“@PatMcCroryNC It’s now the law for me to share a restroom with your wife,” Sheffield tweeted the North Carolina governor along with a stern-faced, bearded selfie of himself wearing a camouflage University of Georgia baseball cap.
The tweet quickly went viral, but Sheffield doesn’t actually think his joke is that funny.
“It’s super funny to think about some bearded hillbilly in a stall next to the governor’s wife while she clutches her pearls,” he said on Friday in a phone interview. “But it would never play out that way in reality.”

Despite everyone calling him a fascist, Donald Trump may have more in common with Jefferson Davis than he does with Benito Mussolini.
“What we’re seeing [with Trump’s rise] is what I would call the second Civil War,” Steve Ross, a history professor at the University of Southern California, told The Huffington Post.
It’s not that all of Trump’s supporters want to own slaves or secede from the United States. But they can see their political clout disappearing, and are responding by supporting an extremist movement.
“In 1860, Abraham Lincoln wins the presidential election and for the first time in American history a president can get elected without getting a single electoral vote from the South,” Ross said.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
Garry Shandling, a comedian who deftly walked a tightrope between comic fiction and show-business reality on two critically praised cable shows, died on Thursday in Los Angeles. He was 66.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles police confirmed the death but did not give a cause. TMZ, the celebrity news site, reported that Mr. Shandling had had a heart attack.

This video was shown at the TED conference in 2011, with scenes from “Wings of Life”, a film about the threat to essential pollinators that produce over a third of the food we eat. The seductive love dance between flowers and pollinators sustains the fabric of life and is the mystical keystone event where the animal and plant worlds intersect that make the world go round.

Be sure to watch this on the largest computer screen you have (HD if possible) and have your sound turned on. The hummingbird doing rolls chasing a bee is not to be missed. Be sure and watch closely (around 2 min 40 sec into the film) and check out the baby bat under its mother. Unreal. If you never knew what goes on in the garden when you aren’t paying attention, watch this – some of the finest photography you will ever see.

Shortly after last November’s attacks on Paris by a Brussels-based Islamic State cell, a top U.S. counter-terrorism official traveling in Europe wanted to visit Brussels to learn more about the investigation.
When the official tried to arrange meetings, however, his Belgian counterparts were not welcoming, according to U.S. officials familiar with the events. The Belgians indicated it was a bad time to speak to foreign officials as they were too busy with the investigation, said the officials, who asked not to be identified.
Belgian officials declined to comment on the incident.

Reuters Health – Many parents have only a poor understanding of how much sleep their children need, a New Zealand study found.
One in four parents thought children need less sleep than is recommended, while one in five thought children need more sleep than what experts advise.
Many parents also reported that TV watching, playing, and late dinners interrupted their kids’ regular bedtimes.
“Children who have insufficient sleep are more likely to have difficulties with their attention, mood, learning, health, and behavior at home and at school,” said lead author Philippa McDowall of the University of Otago in New Zealand.

Belgian police have released images of three suspects thought to be involved in a wave of attacks in Brussels and are actively seeking one of them.
The suspects were caught on security cameras at Zaventem Airport, where 14 people were killed in a bombing and apparent suicide attack Tuesday — one of two Brussels-area attacks that left a combined 34 people dead in and around the Belgian city.
The three unidentified men in the photo are pushing baggage carts with suitcases past the airport’s check-in area. Two of the men are wearing black clothing and black gloves on their left hands. The other man is wearing light clothing and a dark hat.

Brussels Attack Suspect Najim Laachraoui Arrested, Belgian Media Says
I’ve always slept underwear free. PJ pants, sure — but nothing tighter than that. As a kid, I thought my friends who wore underwear and socks to bed at a sleepovers were absolutely nuts.
Then, at summer camp a few years later, a girl in my cabin took up my cause. When she announced she never wore underwear to sleep, the other kids ridiculed her. No one else believed her when she insisted it was “important to let your vagina breathe at night.”
What people wear — or don’t wear — to bed is the subject of lively debate. It isn’t just about underwear. People have strong opinions about whether it’s better to sleep naked or clothed — and if clothed, to what degree. Some folks insist you should wear a bra to sleep, while others balk at the prospect of keeping their boobs caged at night.

In the world, human beings are facing various problems. People who are full of greed, anger, and ignorance are seen to be fighting with each other in words and deeds. As the fighting continues, various problems such as civil wars, wars of aggression, and wars of aggression are occurring. As world peace is being destroyed, humans are facing unbearable problems. Innocent children and women are not getting the rights they deserve and deserve. I can't think of one thing every time. What is it? The United Nations. If we look at the responsibilities and duties of the United Nations, I think it is not suitable for solving the problems that are happening in the world today. In fact, the United Nations and the World Security Council, such an organization must rule the world, must be able to give orders, and must have various ways to obey orders. There must be no organization that can influence more than that organization. There should be experts from each country. They can even dominate the superpowers like the US, China, and Britain. Only then will global peace be achieved quickly. Now, if a country with power develops more militarily, economically, or socially than its own country, then powerful countries will jealously seek out enemies and wage war. Or they will attack with fighter jets. In this, innocent people are losing their lives. No one understands the value of a life. You should think about how to achieve global peace by controlling these. If the US continues to be the permanent president of the UN, world peace will never be achieved. If you think carefully, no one sees that they are working for the common good, but for their own benefit, for the benefit of their own country. The permanent president of the UN and the Security Council has rejected this, As a young Rohingya, I have come to realize that only by electing the president and secretary from among the countries in the world through a secret ballot system and governing the world fairly can we achieve global peace. The United Nations and the Security Council are organizations in which any country must govern, give orders, and make them obey their orders. For example, only when a defendant is tried in court can we hold the leaders of the countries in check and control them, can we achieve global peace smoothly. Otherwise, it will not be easy for powerful countries to use various excuses to end this war every year, every year, for the benefit of themselves and their countries. No country's leaders pay any attention to the words of the United Nations and the Security Council. If we look at it in practice, look at the Rohingya issue. Myanmar is a small country. Even that country has been under siege for 8 years. What action can be taken? Why is the UN and the Security Council Powerless? Without such Power, how can the organization bring about global peace? Everyone should think about it. Whether there is a veto or a strong one, all countries in the world can only achieve global peace if they are subject to the UN and the Security Council. Seek peace in the quiet embrace of nature. Peace is an indispensable need of the human race. It is not as if one person can kill another person, and it is as if one country can attack another country, but instead of trying to build peace, we must try to destroy the peace now, and the world is getting hotter and is on the verge of collapse. I especially appeal to all the world experts to urgently try to bring about peace in all parts of the world. Mr, Noor Muhamed Arkhan Rohingya Youth Myanmar
