Mom Lets Son Wear KKK Halloween Costume, Says It’s A Family Tradition
November 5, 2013
A Virginia mother let her 7-year-old son wear a Ku Klux Klan costume this Halloween because, she insisted, it’s a family tradition.
Jessica Black of Craigsville, Va., let her son, Jackson, dress as a Klansman with a floor-length white robe and full-faced white hood, according to local ABC affiliate WHSV. The outfit garnered media attention after a photo of the boy dressed in the KKK regalia was posted to the WHSV Facebook page. When Black was confronted by the news network, she defended her decision.
“My brother has [worn it] when he was in Kindergarten and when he was 13,” Black said. She went on to claim there is nothing wrong with the costume or with the White Supremacist group, which she says still exists in their Virginia town. “It’s supposed to be white with white, black with black, man with woman and all…

Pole Steeple Trail, Pine Grove Furnace State Park
November 2, 2013

My friends and I decided to go hiking at Pole Steeple. What did I get? Fun quality time with friends, beautiful scenery, fresh air, peace of mind, and, of course, burned calories!
The Pole Steeple Trail, located within Pine Grove Furnace State Park and west of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is where we hiked. It is the main trail to reach the summit. In addition, compared to the other trail that heads around the cliffs to the south side, the Pole Steeple Trail is shorter. It only took us about 3 hours to finish the whole trail. For some, it may be quite tiring because the trail is steep but I guarantee you that the climb is all worth-it. At the top, there is a spectacular quartite rock waiting for you. Not only that, you could also see the entire park in its summit.
So what are you waiting for? Plan your…

Capt. Kirk Takes Command Of Hot New Ship – Really! USS Zumwalt Sails
November 2, 2013

To boldly go in a revolutionary ship where no one has commanded before. Why the clumsy Star Trek reference? Because the Navy’s newest, stealthy, most radical ship, the USS Zumwalt, will be commanded by the fabulously named Capt. James A. Kirk. The Navy couldn’t make something like this up, could they? The Zumwalt, launched on Monday, contains a plethora of new weapons, a radical power plant and a controversial new hull design designed to reduce its radar signature. And it really is commanded by Capt. James A. Kirk. As aficionados of the original Star Trek series know, the full name of the USS Enterprise’s commander was James Tiberius Kirk, so there should be no mistaking the two men.

George Zimmerman Juror: ‘We All Know Who’s Guilty’
November 1, 2013
One of the jurors in the George Zimmerman trial said her life was ruined by the case and that she has doubts about the jury’s verdict.
The juror, who has been identified only as “Maddy,” gave an interview to Inside Edition’s Les Trent that airs on Thursday.
Shortly after the trial concluded, Maddy lost friends who were upset by the verdict and lost her job at a nursing home, according to an Inside Edition press released.
She said she and her husband have had to sell their possessions to make ends meet, including her kitchen table. The family now eats on the floor.
Maddy said she’s now days away from having to move into a homeless shelter because she can’t afford her house.
“Emotionally, mentally, physically, I’m so drained. I can’t stop thinking about the case,” Maddy said in the release. “I have a…

Vulnerability is Good : Accepting Vulnerability is Better
November 1, 2013
Recently, I see a lot of posts about vulnerability, mostly accepting it as a positive human construct. It is encouraging to feel this wave of perception that has risen and is relentlessly touching thousands of kindred souls.
Of course, my friends and fellow travelers! Vulnerability is an honest human construct. Fear, doubt, frustration, hurt, failure, depression, angst, anxiety, insecurity all are sensory responses to varied external stimuli.
I find movies a good place to quote or to draw parallels from. The iconic martial artists, actor and stunt man, Jackie Chan brought something fresh and new to the erstwhile martial art movies. His movies introduce vulnerability with impeccable comic timing. He made the people, the viewers relate to the troubles of the protagonist. The heroes also get hurt and why not, they are human beings, made up of flesh and bones. They are susceptible to emotions, circumstances, to the people in…

The One Quality We Often Mistake For Weakness Can Actually Make You Stronger
October 31, 2013
We tend to equate vulnerability with weakness, but according to author and researcher Brene Brown, who has made a career out of researching shame and vulnerability, allowing ourselves to be truly seen and understood by others is a powerful source of creativity, innovation and transformation.
“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage,” Brown writes in Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. “Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”
Brown goes on to explain that love or any sort of connection are impossible without vulnerability, which she defines as the courage to show up and let yourself be seen. More leaders have become comfortable opening up and letting themselves be vulnerable, letting people see them in a real, rather than constructed light.
