I remember the first time I ever saw beetroot, my mum made it with a salad and I looked like a shocked whatsapp emoji when I saw it (:o?) because of its striking colour!
Fast forward years later and it’s one of my favourite vegetables.
To make this creamy sweet potato and beetroot soup I used:

small white onion, chopped
3 large beetroots
1 large sweet potato
1-2 tsp cumin seeds
4 cups vegetable stock
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Directions
Gently heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the onions are tender.
Add in the cumin seeds and allow to infuse for a minute.
Meanwhile, chop the beetroot and sweet potato into cubes.
Add to the onions and stir briefly.
Add the vegetable stock and gently simmer for 15-20 minutes (until the beetroot is soft). Remove from the heat and blend.

A 41-year-old Texas prisoner was put to death Wednesday evening for the slayings of three people during a robbery at their San Antonio home more than 21 years ago.

Arnold Prieto became the first prisoner to receive a lethal injection this year in Texas, which carried out 10 executions in 2014.

He was pronounced dead at 6:31 p.m. CST, 20 minutes after a lethal dose of pentobarbital began flowing into his veins.

There is so much hype around Boyhood that I couldn’t wait to see it.  Now that I’ve seen it, I honestly don’t know what all hype is about.  Boyhood is a nostalgic look at Richard Linklater’s childhood between the ages of 5 and 18.  Richard is also the writer, director and producer of  Boyhood.  Personally, I found it a little slow and a little boring.  Boyhood’s claim to fame is that it was filmed over a period of 12 years.  This means the characters, no matter what age, are the same actors/actresses the movie started out with.  Basically, I don’t feel Boyhood offers anything earth shattering that would make me happy about spending 12+ bucks to see it.  I also think the movie is too long (2 hours, 44 minutes) for this type of flat, coming of age story.  The film begins in  2002, Texas and is about Samantha…

But if tech is a part of your life, you encounter these micro-machines far more often than you’re likely aware. Last week marked David Bowie’s 68th birthday, so naturally there’s an animated GIF circling the internet that chronicles the most glam of rockers and his many, many makeovers.

Twenty-two-year-old Helen Green is the brilliant mind behind this moving masterpiece, chronicling every single one of Bowie’s iconic looks from 1964 to 2014. There are mullets, there are eye patches, there are baby scarves, there are fake moles, there are perms. There are so many high cheek bones.

American Sniper is a true story based on the life of Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper. This movie was excellent. The academy of Arts and Science has their work cut out for them this year. There’s much to learn from this movie. Imagine having to assassinate terrorist in war time. Whether it’s a child, woman or man, as a sniper you are required to take the subject out immediately before they take out our soldiers. Chris was a cowboy who preformed in rodeos with his brother before deciding to become a Navy Seal Sniper.  Taught by his dad to shoot, he had a gift, as he was able to shoot with pinpoint accuracy.  Chris encountered many situations while in Iraq.  By the time he got out of the service he was mentally affected by the experience.  He worked long and hard to overcome his problems and get back to…

The Theory of Everything is one of the most heartfelt stories I’ve seen. Eddie Redmayne’s performance as Stephen Hawking is brilliant and definitely Oscar worthy.
