‘Daddy hurt her’: Nobody believed a boy’s story, until he dug up the backyard 20 years later

.

It was a single-story, three-bedroom ranch house on a quiet residential street in a northern stretch of Jacksonville, Fla. Aaron Fraser had not lived inside since he was 4 years old, and the four walls held plenty of ugly memories and unresolved questions. But in December 2014, after the 24-year-old took possession of the house, he and his brother-in-law rolled up their sleeves for a renovation.

According to the Florida Times-Union, the two men began by smashing apart a swimming pool in the back with a rented excavator. At one point, the machine cracked a large concrete slab near an outdoor shower. Aaron began hacking at the pieces with a sledgehammer. Below in the dirt, he found a plastic bag, and from inside he pulled something out. It was a coconut, he thought.

“Why would someone bury a coconut in a bag?” Aaron asked his brother-in-law, according to News4Jax.

.

The murder trial will start in Florida April 8 against Michael Haim in his wife Bonnie Haim’s 1993 murder.

When Aaron Fraser began excavating behind his childhood home in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of a renovation in 2014, he made a gruesome discovery: human remains.

They were the skull and bones of his mother, Bonnie Haim, who had gone missing in January 1993 and whose body had not been found.
.
Prosecutors say that discovery led officials to arrest her then-husband, Michael Haim, and charge him with second-degree murder..
.
“The truth was always out there, buried in their backyard,” Assistant State Attorney Alan Mizrahi said in opening statements in the murder trial on Tuesday.

How Far-Right Extremists Abroad Have Adopted Trump’s Symbols As Their Own

Alexandre Bissonette wore the hat.

A Canadian, Bissonette hadn’t voted for Donald Trump. He lived in a French-speaking province, far from the U.S. president’s campaign rallies and “America first” appeals. But some of the first photos to emerge of the 27-year-old after he stormed a Quebec City mosque and killed six Muslim men in January 2017 showed him wide-eyed with a slight smirk and a red “Make America Great Again” cap casting a shadow over his pallid face.

“Make America Great Again” has become more than a U.S. political slogan. For Bissonette and other white nationalist, radical right and anti-immigrant extremists all over the world, it’s a symbol; a kind of political messaging that transcends the specifics of country and language.

“The hat and the MAGA acronym have really become shorthand for this white nationalist movement,” said Barbara Perry, a professor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and an expert on the far right.

Jennifer Hart drove her six children to their deaths as her wife looked up how much they would suffer, a jury says

.

As a drunk Jennifer Hart drove her six adopted children in their family SUV, her wife, Sarah, sat in the passenger seat looking up different ways to end a life.

The SUV carrying the Hart family would drive off a 100-foot Pacific coast cliff on that day in March last year — a tragedy police say took all eight lives and sparked questions about abuse and homicide.
.
As the car was in motion, Sarah was busy with the searches:
.
“How easily can I overdose on over the counter medications?”
.
“Can 500mg of Benadryl kill a 125lb woman?”
.
“How long does it take to die from hypothermia while drowning in a car?”
.
One of her last searches was for a no-kill dog shelter.

Authorities Investigate String Of ‘Suspicious’ Fires At Black Churches In Louisiana

Authorities in southern Louisiana are investigating a string of “suspicious” fires at three African American churches in recent days.

During a news conference Thursday, Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning said it wasn’t clear whether the fires in St. Landry Parish are connected and he declined to get into specifics of what the investigation had yielded so far but described the blazes as “suspicious.”

“If you’re going to turn to a house of god, turn to it for resurrection,” he said.

State Fire Marshal’s spokeswoman Ashley Rodrigue says all three churches have African American congregations. She said all possibilities on the cause and potential motives are being investigated.
