A venture capitalist who is also a minority owner of the Golden State Warriors was banned by the team from attending any of the remaining NBA Finals games and fined $500,000 after he shoved a Toronto Raptors player who fell into the crowd.

During Wednesday night’s Game 3 with the Raptors and Warriors, S-Curbed Capital managing partner Mark Stevens was caught on camera pushing Kyle Lowry’s shoulder after the Raptors point guard fell into people sitting courtside while trying to save the ball.

Lowry was seen in video posted on social media pointing at Stevens and shaking his head as he walked back onto the court. Stevens was then escorted from his seat.

The Curious Cons of the Man Who Wouldn’t Die

Mark was tweaking when he forged his own death certificate. Meth gave him diamantaire focus and huge confidence. The drug was like a cheering section in his veins, telling him he was a genius, they’d never catch him. This was late in October 2003, at his desk in the apartment on Willoughby Avenue in West Hollywood.

Mark based the forgery, as usual, on his brother Luke’s death certificate, now more than ten years old. Using Photoshop, he altered names, dates, vital statistics. (Such a boon, Photoshop. For his first forgery, he’d had to use scissors and adhesive.) He imported the public health director’s signature straight into the file. The final flourish was the embossed seal he’d bought off the shelf at Office Depot.

Sometime between 2 A.M. and 5 A.M., Mark completed the death certificate, as well as a fake New York Times paid death notice—a ridiculously easy project, by comparison. In the high-WASP tones of his childhood in Mount Vernon, New York, he wrote a cover letter for the documents, addressed to the Los Angeles County Probation Department. He signed the letter in the name of his dead brother, Luke.

NY prosecutors want Paul Manafort sent to Rikers Island

.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort could be headed to Rikers Island, the notorious jail complex in New York City, if prosecutors get their way.

New York prosecutors are seeking to move Manafort from the western Pennsylvania prison where he is serving his federal sentence to Rikers Island for the duration of a state case brought by the Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance, according to a source familiar with the discussions.
.
But Manafort’s legal team hopes that won’t be where he stays as he faces the New York charges. Manafort hasn’t been told where he’ll be held yet, according to his defense attorney, Todd Blanche. Blanche acknowledged that Rikers was a possible place Manafort could go—and that it’s even likely.

A new study shows how badly Americans were ‘fleeced’ by the GOP tax bill

.

As tax season drew to a close in April 2019, and Americans all across the country struggled through their newly-convoluted return forms, their paltry or non-existent refunds, their minimum wage, and salary increases, and their resulting financial status, a slowly dawning realization began to take shape.

It was the unpleasant recognition that yes, in fact, they had been conned.

The title of this analysis by Think Progress, reporting on a study just released by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, really says it all: New study confirms ordinary Americans got fleeced by the Trump tax bill.

And Michael Hiltzik, writing for the Los Angeles Times, explains just what a colossal, shameless rip-off the Republican Party and Donald Trump perpetrated against ordinary Americans, with the passage of their so-called “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act,” a legislative abomination which the formerly Republican-controlled House of Representatives and a Republican Senate foisted upon all American taxpayers in the dead of night on December 20, 2017.

Quest Diagnostics said the personal information of 11.9 million customers has potentially been compromised.

The clinical laboratory company said in a release that an “unauthorized user” gained access to a system used by American Medical Collection Agency (AMCA), a billing vendor hired by a Quest contractor called Optum360..
Quest said the information that may have been exposed included Social Security numbers and medical information, but not test results.
.
AMCA first notified Quest on May 14 of “potential unauthorized activity” on its payment page, Quest said. Two weeks later, according to Quest, AMCA then told Quest and Optum360 more about the breach, including the number of patients potentially affected and what information was accessed.

What Bullets Do to Bodies

The first thing Dr. Amy Goldberg told me is that this article would be pointless. She said this on a phone call last summer, well before the election, before a tangible sensation that facts were futile became a broader American phenomenon. I was interested in Goldberg because she has spent 30 years as a trauma surgeon, almost all of that at the same hospital, Temple University Hospital in North Philadelphia, which treats more gunshot victims than any other in the state and is located in what was, according to one analysis, the deadliest of the 10 largest cities in the country until last year, with a homicide rate of 17.8 murders per 100,000 residents in 2015.

Over my years of reporting here, I had heard stories about Temple’s trauma team. A city prosecutor who handled shooting investigations once told me that the surgeons were able to piece people back together after the most horrific acts of violence. People went into the hospital damaged beyond belief and came walking out.

The Wooing of Jared Kushner: How the Saudis Got a Friend in the White House

.

Senior American officials were worried. Since the early months of the Trump administration, Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and Middle East adviser, had been having private, informal conversations with Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the favorite son of Saudi Arabia’s king.

Given Mr. Kushner’s political inexperience, the private exchanges could make him susceptible to Saudi manipulation, said three former senior American officials. In an effort to tighten practices at the White House, a new chief of staff tried to reimpose longstanding procedures stipulating that National Security Council staff members should participate in all calls with foreign leaders.

But even with the restrictions in place, Mr. Kushner, 37, and Prince Mohammed, 33, kept chatting, according to three former White House officials and two others briefed by the Saudi royal court. In fact, they said, the two men were on a first-name basis, calling each other Jared and Mohammed in text messages and phone calls.
