Evan Engram has his goals. He doesn’t like to talk about them but when asked if reaching 1,000 yards receiving this season is among them, even he can’t help himself and deny it’s on the list.
“You can say it’s up there,” the explosive New York Giants tight end said.
It’s a lofty goal. Engram barely got halfway there (577 yards) in an injury-filled 2018 season and only seven tight ends have been able to top 1,000 yards receiving over the past nine years.Engram could join them this season considering his talent and the circumstances, which have a strong chance to make him their top pass-catching option. Their so-called No. 1 receiver. The opportunities should be there.
The oceans are warming faster than climate reports have suggested, according to a new synthesis of temperature observations published this week. The most recent report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change made what turned out to be a very conservative estimate of rise in ocean temperature, and scientists are advising us to adjust our expectations.
“The numbers are coming in 40 to 50 percent [warmer] than the last IPCC report,” said Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and an author on the report, published in Science Magazine on Thursday.
Furthermore, Trenberth said, “2018 will be the warmest year on record in the oceans” as 2017 was and 2016 before that.

The U.S. Men’s National Team opens up its fall 2019 schedule by rekindling its regional rivalry with Mexico on Friday, Sept. 6 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. (8:30 p.m. ET; FS1, Univision, TUDN) in a rematch of this year’s Concacaf Gold Cup Final.
EL TRICOLOR
Mexico’s National Team is known as el El Tri, short for El Tricolor. The name comes from the tri-color scheme of the squad’s traditional uniforms, which consisted of a green jersey, white shorts and red socks.
The colors mimic the country’s flag, which is green, white and red with an eagle devouring a serpent. The eagle can also be found on the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol’s official crest.
Name any fast-food restaurant, personal care product or home good you have bought recently, and chances are it contributed to the deforestation of the Amazon. Now name a big bank ― any big bank, really. More than likely it has helped finance that destruction.
Furniture companies like IKEA and La-Z-Boy, and footwear giants like Nike, Adidas and New Balance, are customers of Chinese manufacturers that source leather from Brazilian cattle ranches. Palm oil, produced in Brazil and elsewhere, is used in everything from pizza dough and ice cream to lipstick and shampoo. Soy, paper and wood products that come directly from the Amazon are omnipresent.
It’s not hard to pinpoint our unquenchable thirst for cattle, soy, timber, palm oil and other commodities as the main driver of Amazonian deforestation and the underlying cause of the record number of fires this year.
Phillip Lee has defected from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats, crossing the floor in the House of Commons as Boris Johnson addressed members of parliament.
The defection of the MP for Bracknell means the government no longer has a working majority.
Lee is the fourth MP to defect to Jo Swinson’s party in the last few months and takes their total to 15.
Speaking in the Commons, Johnson told Lee he wished him “all the best” after watching him sit down with the Lib Dems.
Emergency responders staged search-and-rescue operations on the island of Grand Bahama, but larger-scale efforts remained hampered Tuesday as nearly stalled Hurricane Dorian continued to pummel the northern Bahamas for a third punishing day.
Prime Minister Hubert Minnis, the director of the National Emergency Management Agency and other senior officials took their first flight over the Abaco islands in the northern Bahamas to assess the damage.
Authorities said Tuesday that children were among the dead.
“Unfortunately from what we are getting, a few of them were children,” National Security Minister Marvin Dames told The Washington Post. “We’re at the beginning of this and, as you know, this is a very unfortunate occurrence for us as a country.”
The U.S. Women’s National Team continued its 2019 Victory Tour presented by Allstate with a commanding 3-0 win against Portugal before a sellout crowd of 19,600 at Allianz Field. Carli Lloyd led a rampant U.S. attack by registering her 20th career multi-goal game as she scored two first half goals to set the USA on the path to victory. Lindsey Horan’s goal in the final minutes capped what was USWNT head coach Jill Ellis’ 105th career win in charge of the team, a mark that ties her with the late great Tony DiCicco for the most in program history.
The USA once again put on an impressive display, amassing more than 60 percent possession on nearly 500 passes, while out-shooting the visitors 21-1. An invigorated Portugal defense that played very low and compact held out longer than in the teams’ recent record-breaking encounter in Philadelphia before conceding the first goal just after the 20-minute mark.
Lloyd tucked in the game’s first goal in the 22nd minute after a wild scramble in front of the net that was set off by a Julie Ertz cross that was partially cleared and then mishit back into danger by a Portugal defender. Lloyd’s initial attempt to convert the misplayed ball was bravely saved by Portugal goalkeeper Ines Pereira before falling for Jessica McDonald to have a go but her attempt was also thwarted by Pereira. The lose ball then fell to Lloyd who made no mistake from close range to make it 1-0.

Actor-comedian Kevin Hart and two others were involved in a car crash in Calabasas, California early Sunday, according to a California Highway Patrol incident report obtained by CNN.
Hart and the driver, Jared Black, sustained “major back injuries” and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, the report states.
.
Black was driving Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, according to the report, when he lost control of the vehicle. It went off the road and rolled down an embankment.
.
Two of the three occupants were trapped in the vehicle. Hart left the scene to his nearby residence to get medical attention, the report states.
.
Patrol officers determined that Black was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. The third occupant did not suffer any substantial injuries.
Hurricane Dorian, one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record, hung over the Bahamas on Monday, thrashing the archipelago with high winds and surging seawater that flooded neighborhoods, submerged vehicles and shredded homes. The storm has left at least five people dead, officials said.
With the storm expected to churn a menacing path toward the United States, forecasters warned that it could inflict serious damage from Florida to southeastern Virginia and possibly beyond. Forecasters moved the storm’s much-watched “cone of uncertainty” slightly eastward on Monday, but they emphasized that even a minor change could bring the storm onto the American coast.
The island of Grand Bahama was subjected to a particularly brutal pummeling as the hurricane came to a near-standstill for most of the day, spewing sustained winds as high as 180 miles per hour.
A west Texas man, on a “downward spiral,” made “rambling” calls to police and the FBI before embarking on a shooting spree that took the lives of seven innocent bystanders, authorities said Monday.
The killer, 36-year-old Seth Ator, had been fired by his employer, Journey Oil Field Services, on Saturday before he went on his bloody rampage in the neighboring cities of Odessa and Midland, Texas.
“Right after that firing he called 911 … and so did his employer,” Odessa police chief Michael Gerke told reporters. “And basically they were complaining at each other because they had a disagreement over that firing.”
He left his trucking business employer’s office before police showed up.
