Sir Kim Darroch resigned as Britain’s ambassador to the U.S. this week after President Donald Trump blasted him for leaked memos showing he told London that Trump was “inept” and “dysfunctional.” But another powerful ambassador who slammed the president in private remains a close ally of the Trump administration.
Yousef Al Otaiba, the well-connected envoy from the United Arab Emirates, has been in frequent contact with the president’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, and his country is an important node in the Trump team’s controversial relationship with Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.
In 2016, however, Otaiba repeatedly bashed Trump in conversations with associates, including an aide to President Barack Obama, according to personal emails obtained and independently verified by HuffPost.

Former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III and two House panels struck a deal Friday to reschedule his congressional testimony for July 24, an agreement that gives lawmakers more time to question the reluctant witness about his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible obstruction of justice by President Trump.
Mueller had been scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees on July 17 in a much-anticipated public appearance since he gave a short statement following the conclusion of his nearly two-year investigation. The former FBI director is perhaps the one person lawmakers and the nation have been wanting to hear from most.
Instead, Mueller will testify a week later, the two committees announced late Friday, for an “extended period of time.”

The digital revolution is changing how we live and work.
Headlines like these are causing people to panic:
- “How the robots will take your job and kill the economy” (Fast Company, 2015)
- “Automation could kill 73 million U.S. jobs by 2030” (USA Today, 2017)
- “Job loss from AI? There’s more to fear!” – (Forbes, 2018)
However, that story is more balanced than these headlines imply.
Industry 4.0
Industry and business are being transformed by a new wave of digital technology.
Mobile sensors can track inventory from the manufacturing floor, all the way through the shipping channel, to a retail shelf or a customer’s door. Machines send out alerts about quality control, errors, supply shortages or breakdowns. Predictive software automatically schedules maintenance for trucking fleets based on travel data and past repair timelines. Behavioral analytics help financial institutions spot suspicious activity in bank and credit card accounts.
All of this is enabled by various technologies: mobile, cloud computing, analytics, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, autonomous robots, and augmented- and virtual reality (AR/VR).

With the revelation this week that Fox News helped Russian intelligence agents spread the vulgar conspiracy theory about Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich’s murder in 2016, we have entered a dark and dangerous place. We’re at the point where a major American cable news channel teamed up with forces from a foreign adversary in order to damage a major political party in this country. What do we even call this? Treason? The fifth column inside the United States? We are so far beyond Fox News being a useful platform for Republicans to spread bits of partisan misinformation. We’re talking about a huge, powerful media entity that essentially aligns itself with foreign agents to undermine American democracy from within. And no, that’s not hyperbole. Those are the established facts, per a Yahoo News investigation.

All true! But the Biden storyline has overshadowed another important development in the 2020 Democratic campaign: A top tier has emerged!
.
That lead pack has four candidates: Biden, California Sen. Kamala Harris, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Biden remains the nominal frontrunner of the quartet, but Harris and Warren are chasing at his heels while Sanders appears to be clinging on to stay with the frontrunners.
.
The distance between those top four and the rest of the 200 — rough estimate! — other people running for the Democratic nomination, from an organizational and polling perspective, is real and significant.

As fishermen deep in the Louisiana bayou, Kindra Arnesen and her family have faced their share of life-altering challenges in recent years.
First came Hurricane Katrina, the 2005 monster storm that devastated her small fishing community in Plaquemines Parish before roaring up the Gulf Coast, killing more than 1,800 people and destroying $125 billion in property. Five years later, BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded 40 miles offshore, spewing nearly 200 million gallons of crude. The fisheries have not fully recovered more than nine years later, nor has her
family. But this year may be worse. A historic slow-moving flood of polluted Mississippi River water loaded with chemicals, pesticides and human waste from 31 states and two Canadian provinces is draining straight into the marshes and bayous of the Gulf of Mexico — the nurseries of Arnesen’s fishing grounds — upsetting the delicate balance of salinity and destroying the fragile ecosystem in the process. As the Gulf waters warm this summer, algae feed on the freshwater brew, smothering oxygen-starved marine life.

The singer R. Kelly, already under indictment in Chicago on state charges of aggravated sexual assault and abuse, was arrested Thursday night by federal agents on charges related to child pornography and other federal crimes, officials said.
Mr. Kelly was taken into custody over a 13-count indictment that includes enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice, in addition to the child pornography charges, said Joseph D. Fitzpatrick, an assistant United States attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Kelly was arrested in Chicago.
Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn are expected to unveil a separate indictment on Friday containing additional charges against Mr. Kelly, according to two law enforcement officials.

On top of winning the World Cup, the U.S. women’s soccer team did something else truly amazing this month: They got the whole country talking about economics ― specifically, equal pay for women.
At a parade in their honor in New York on Wednesday, crowds chanted for equal pay. And the wage gap ― the difference between what men and women earn ― became the subject of conversation on sports radio and in places typically unbothered by the gender inequality.
The question now is: What’s next?
Right now in the U.S., women are paid on average 80 cents for every dollar a man earns, and the pay gap is even worse for women of color. The women’s team wage gap is even more shocking ― they’re making just 38 cents on the dollar compared to the men’s team, according to the discrimination suit the women filed in March.
