On Wednesday, singer-turned-beauty icon-turned-fashion designer Rihanna debuted her highly anticipated, history-making clothing collection under the Fenty name.
Through her partnership with luxury brand LVMH Moet Hennessy–Louis Vuitton SE, Rihanna has become the first Black woman to run a major fashion house. While making her own mark, she has also leaned upon the creative history of her ancestors, drawing inspiration for visual branding from the photos and fashions of the Grandassa models and the “Black Is Beautiful” movement of the 1950s and ’60s.
“When I was coming up with the concept for this release, we were just digging and digging and we came up with these images ― they made me feel they were relevant to what we are doing right now,” Rihanna told Vogue. “We want people to see the parallels between what was then and what this is now, in a modern way.”

A South Korean newspaper reported Friday that North Korea executed a senior envoy involved in nuclear negotiations with the U.S. as well as four other high-level officials.
But as ever with North Korea, a country that closely guards its secrets, there are reasons to be cautious about the purported purge.
NBC News was not immediately able to independently verify the report. Kim Jong Un’s regime also hasn’t used its propaganda services to comment.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was asked about the report during a visit to Germany Friday.

Here’s what you need to know about President Trump’s moves to impose import penalties on Mexico:
• In a series of tweets, Trump on Friday defended his decision to impose tariffs on Mexico to try to stop a surge of migrants across the border.
• Mexico’s foreign minister rushed to Washington to try to broker a diplomatic solution — but said on Twitter that the U.S. move is “unfair and does not make economic sense.”
• Global markets opened down Friday, especially automobile stocks.
• Lawmakers and Trump’s top economic advisers are urging Trump to exercise caution and business groups are warning of price increases on consumer goods.

The IG found “standing room only conditions” at the El Paso Del Norte Processing Center, which has a maximum capacity of 125 migrants. On May 7 and 8, logs indicated that there were “approximately 750 and 900 detainees, respectively.”
.
“We also observed detainees standing on toilets in the cells to make room and gain breathing space, thus limiting access to the toilets,” the report states.
.
A cell with a maximum capacity of 12 held 76 detainees, another with a maximum capacity of eight held 41, and another with a maximum capacity of 35 held 155, according to the report.

Stearn Hodge lost his left arm and right leg in a workplace accident in 1984 and uses a scooter powered by lithium batteries to get around. He can wear a prosthetic leg, but not for long because of the risk of infection, according to the outlet.
.
In 2017, Hodge was traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma, with his wife for their 43rd wedding anniversary when a CATSA security agent at the Calgary International Airport and a representative from United Airlines told him it was unsafe to fly with his scooter’s $2,000 battery and its spare.

We sit silently. My friend stares deeply into her empty glass, occasionally shuffling the ice around with her straw. “Wow,” she says. I sit and wait for her to say something else. What started out as a festive night somehow became a long, deep discussion about love, what it consists of, and how rare it actually is.
Finally, I say, “Wow, what?”
“I’m just thinking that I’ve never experienced that.”
“Well, maybe you just haven’t met the right person yet,” I say — the totally cliche thing that every friend says in this situation.
“No,” she says. “I mean, I’ve never experienced that with anyone. My parents, my family, even most of my friends.” She looks up at me, her eyes glassy and wet, “Maybe I don’t know what love is.”
