First kisses are awkward. And scary. And uncomfortable. And if you’re lucky, it can be romantic enough to make your knees wobble.
Los Angeles-based filmmaker Tatia PIlieva, along with Wren Studio, managed to capture those heart-stopping and breathtaking moments by asking 20 strangers to kiss for the first time on camera. The result is a candid look at love, romance and chemistry.
The first few moments feel awkward, as they make small talk: “What’s your name again?” “Can we turn off the lights?” “You have nice eyes.” “It’s actually pretty scary.” But then, like longtime lovers, each pair goes in for the kill — and somehow, everything works out. Actually, it’s pretty sweet.

The first Halo game for the next-generation Xbox One will come out in fall 2015, Microsoft announced Friday morning.
Halo 5: Guardians is a larger effort than Halo 4, the game’s developer wrote in an Xbox Wire blog post.
“That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine,” wrote Bonnie Ross, general manager of 343 Industries.

Wearable technology is perhaps the most prolific trend in the tech industry today.
From activity-tracking fitness bands to Google Glass and Oculus Rift, big names are getting involved in the once-niche technology — and they’re getting involved in big ways.
You probably wouldn’t have guessed that the tech behind wearable computing devices finds much of its history in attempting to cheat casinos. Inventors built some of the first wearables in the 1960s and ’70s to count cards and improve a gambler’s odds at the roulette table.

This piece is part of Mashable Spotlight, which presents in-depth looks at the people, concepts and issues shaping our digital world.
I’m flapping my wings. Not hard, but slowly and smoothly. At 25 feet across, my wingspan is so great I don’t need to exert much energy to achieve lift. In the distance, I see an island under an azure sky. This is my home. Off to my west, the sun is setting and the sky glows with warm, orange light.
Spotting movement in the ocean below, I bend my body slightly to the left and begin a gentle dive. As I approach the shore, I spot my prey splashing in the shallows. I lean back, keeping my wings fully extended so I can glide just above the water. I’m right over the fish. I pull in my wings, bend forward sharply and dive into the water. I emerge with a fish in my mouth. Success.
