Phillip Lee has defected from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats, crossing the floor in the House of Commons as Boris Johnson addressed members of parliament.
The defection of the MP for Bracknell means the government no longer has a working majority.
Lee is the fourth MP to defect to Jo Swinson’s party in the last few months and takes their total to 15.
Speaking in the Commons, Johnson told Lee he wished him “all the best” after watching him sit down with the Lib Dems.

Weeks after a call went out on Facebook for people to “storm Area 51,” the top-secret United States military site in the Nevada desert that is said to hide aliens, a similar event has been organized to “find dat big boi” — the Loch Ness monster — in Scotland, setting off mild alarm bells.
The Scotland event invited people last week to storm Loch Ness — the deep, freshwater lake in the Scottish Highlands whose most fabled tenant is said to be an underwater creature.
“Nessie can’t hide from us all,” the invitation said, echoing the Area 51 event set up by a California man in June to “Let’s see them aliens” because “They can’t stop all of us.”

Boris Johnson, Britain’s brash former foreign secretary and standard-bearer for leaving the European Union, on Tuesday won the contest to succeed Prime Minister Theresa May, with his party handing the job of resolving the country’s three-year Brexit nightmare to one of its most polarizing politicians.
Mr. Johnson beat Jeremy Hunt, his successor as foreign secretary, in the battle for the leadership of Britain’s governing Conservative Party, winning with a substantial 66 percent of the postal vote held among its membership. Although the Conservatives’ working majority in Parliament is very small, it appears to be enough to ensure that Mr. Johnson will succeed Mrs. May as prime minister on Wednesday.
He would take office at one of the most critical moments in Britain’s recent history, immediately facing the toughest challenge of his career, to manage his nation’s exit from the European Union in little more than three months. But his policy swerves, lack of attention to detail and contradictory statements leave the country guessing how things will unfold.

Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcomed a baby boy on Monday. Prince Harry said, “I’m just over the moon!” The global media said, “Show us the baby!”
Some of the details — especially where the birth took place — are yet to be revealed by the palace or the couple, who sought to keep the delivery more private than the past public issues of Harry’s brother, Prince William, likely a future king.
Baby Sussex is seventh in line to the British throne and Queen Elizabeth II’s eighth great-grandchild.

In his first interview since leaving office, former president Barack Obama didn’t mention President Trump by name, but he really didn’t have to: He told his host, Prince Harry, that leaders shouldn’t use social media to stoke division.
“All of us in leadership have to find ways in which we can recreate a common space on the Internet,” Obama said.
The interview took the form of a warm chat between the 44th U.S. president and Prince Harry, who was serving as guest host on BBC Radio 4’s popular “Today” program.
“One of the dangers of the Internet is that people can have entirely different realities. They can be cocooned in information that reinforces their current biases,” Obama said. “It is harder to be as obnoxious and cruel in person as people can be anonymously on the Internet.”

Following a fast-moving investigation and manhunt, British police on Saturday arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with an attack the previous day on the London subway, in which at least 30 people were injured and authorities labeled as terrorism.
Authorities said the man was arrested by Kent police in the port area of Dover on the English Channel. Police suspect he might have been seeking a boat out of England.
In addition, armed police raided and searched a house in Sunbury, west of London, on Saturday afternoon. Counterterrorism units were at the scene and police told reporters the operation was connected to the subway explosion.

A driver swerved a van onto a pedestrian area Thursday in Barcelona’s historic Las Ramblas district, ramming into crowds and leaving at least 13 people dead and more than 50 injured scattered along a stretch of tree-shaded sidewalk. Authorities described the incident as a terrorist attack.
Joaquim Forn, the interior minister of the Catalan regional government, confirmed the casualty toll in a Twitter message.
Some of those injured were in serious condition, raising the possibility that the death toll could rise.
Earlier, Spanish police described the carnage as “massive.”
Spanish police did not immediately give details on the driver or other aspects of the incident.

Chloe Ayling, a 20-year-old mother of one, said she was attacked by two men after arriving in Milan in mid-July to take part in a photo shoot arranged by her agent.
.
Ayling was drugged and placed in a bag before being transported to a cabin in a remote town in the Italian Alps, she told authorities.
.
“A person wearing black gloves came up from behind and put one hand on my neck and the other on my mouth, while a second person, wearing a black balaclava, injected me in my right arm,” she said in a statement to police, which was published by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

A great white shark jumped inside a 73-year-old fisherman’s boat — and he lived to tell the tale with little more than a skinned arm.
Australian Terry Selwood was fishing in calm waters in the same spot he’s been dropping a line for the last 50 years when the 7-foot long, 440-pound shark leaped into his vessel on Saturday.
“I just caught a blur coming in the corner of me eye … and this thing hit me in the forearm, spun me round and knocked me off me feet,” Selwood told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
He recounted scrambling to safety as the shark was “thrashing around madly.”
When Selwood looked down, he said to himself: “There’s a shark in me boat!”
