Blizzard or near-blizzard conditions will continue to spread through the Upper Midwest into early Wednesday as Winter Storm Kayla advances northeast through those regions.
Blizzard warnings continue in portions of the Plains and Upper Midwest into early Wednesday, due to a dangerous combination of snow and wind will lead to whiteout conditions at times.
Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories continue in parts of the Upper Midwest as well. Snow will also be accompanied by gusty winds here.
Rock legend David Bowie wanted his ashes scattered in Bali “in accordance with the Buddhist rituals,” and he left most of his estate to his two children and his widow, the supermodel Iman, according to his will filed Friday in Manhattan.
The 20-page document, filed under his legal name David Robert Jones, said the estate was worth about $100 million, but didn’t break down the finances.
The singer left the SoHo home he shared with Iman to her, and half of the rest of his worth. His son from a previous marriage, Duncan Jones, received 25 percent and his daughter Alexandria also received 25 percent as well as his Ulster County mountain home.
The most self-assured candidate in the 2016 race failed to win the Iowa Republican caucus Monday night. But as unexpected a setback a silver medal is for Donald Trump — a man who loves seeing his name emblazoned in gold — he can take solace: his immense imprint on the election promises to be long-lasting.
Trump lost to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), 28 to 24 percent, but his politics have prevailed. Republican caucus-goers elevated the most conservative candidate in the race, in Cruz, and the brashest, in Trump. That portends both a massive headache for the Republican Party, which faces the very real prospect of a fissure in the months ahead, and for voters across the country, who now must soberly envision life under Trump’s nativist policies or a slightly diluted variation of them.
Things were even more muddied on the Democratic side of the aisle, where former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton clung to a marginal lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), with just few votes remaining to be counted. If she ultimately emerges victorious, and based on the critical delegate count it appears she will, it will be something of a Pyrrhic victory. Rather than show herself to be the inevitable nominee on Monday — blessed with a bloodless and quick primary fight — she struggled to handle a man she once led by more than 50 points in the polls.

The Sunday Times published a column by English journalist Dominic Lawson, elder brother of Nigella, with the headline “The One Sex Change on the NHS [National Health Service] That Nobody Has Been Talking About.” (Yes, really.) In it, Lawson argues that the problems facing Britain’s health care system are the fault of female doctors who prioritize their families over their work. Male doctors, he said, will work longer hours because they’re not as tied down by family, thereby saving the NHS money.
Unsurprisingly, the piece was slammed for its sexist and backward attitude toward gender and the workplace.
The most powerful response, however, came from the very same community Lawson set his sights on: doctors. Using the hashtag #PinkWednesday, doctors from around England on Wednesday posted selfies wearing pink, often accompanied by messages of encouragement for female doctors.
He’s so convinced of it, in fact, that he quit his job, left his friends and family behind and headed to Iowa, where he works around the clock — for free — to help Cruz’s campaign for the presidency.
“I’ve never really volunteered for any campaign before, let alone a presidential campaign,” Dunleavy, a 28-year-old from Ohio, told Mic on Sunday during a break from his work at the Cruz volunteer center in Urbandale.
“Ted Cruz is definitely a different kind of candidate. Everything he said he would stand for, he stood for,” said Dunleavy, who pointed to Cruz’s commitment to “smart and strong national security,” plus his “belief in the value of human life” and support for the Second Amendment as the traits that drew him to the Texas senator.
“It’s very rare to have an honest politician — kind of an oxymoron,” said Dunleavy, a former child support enforcement agent who’s still paying for his empty apartment back home. Cruz, he said, is “kind of the exception to the rule, and that’s why I dropped everything to come help him.”
As you might imagine, spending a career thinking about the food-borne illnesses that make people sick (or worse) would force a person to think about the kind of meals he puts into his own body.
That’s because every year, there are approximately 48 million cases of food-borne illnesses in the U.S., according to the Food and Drug Administration. An estimated 128,000 people are hospitalized for these sicknesses, and about 3,000 die on an annual basis.
For Bill Marler, a Seattle-based products liability and personal injury attorney who has worked as a food safety advocate in the U.S. for the past two decades, there are some innocuous-seeming edibles that won’t ever make it into his grocery cart. The lawyer has represented the victims of major food poisoning cases against companies like Chili’s, Dole, Taco Bell and Wendy’s, prompting him to come up with some very specific rules about the food he eats.

What’s happening in Flint, Michigan, is unconscionable.
A city of 99,000 people — 56 percent African-American, 40 percent living below the poverty line — has spent nearly two years with poisoned water.
Nearly two years of boil orders, foul smells and false reassurances that the water was safe to drink.
Nearly two years of having residents’ concerns dismissed and belittled by the state government.
Now, thousands of kids may have been exposed to harmful levels of lead, which can irreparably harm brain development and cause learning and behavioral problems. The rate of lead poisoning among children has nearly doubled since Flint approved a state-appointed emergency manager’s plan to switch their water source. And even now that the state is finally launching a belated response, Flint’s undocumented immigrant community is reportedly afraid to get the help they need.

Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown, two CalTech scientists, say the new planet is about 10 times the mass of Earth and has an atmosphere of hydrogen and helium. Science magazine reports that the mysterious “Planet X” moves in a distant orbit beyond Neptune.
The researchers haven’t observed Planet X itself, but believe it exists because of the unique configuration of six objects when they come closest to the sun, according to Science.
The scientists say that there’s a 0.007 percent probability that the configuration is due to chance, and instead are confident it’s a ninth planet. They believe they will observe the planet with a telescope within five years, according to The Associated Press.

Researchers are now pretty certain there’s a ninth planet in the solar system.
Politico CEO Jim VandeHei and chief White House correspondent Mike Allen will leave the news organization they helped launch nine years ago and built into a politics and policy juggernaut.
VandeHei told staff Wednesday that he was departing after the election and that Allen, chief operating officer Kim Kingsley, chief revenue officer Roy Schwartz and executive vice president Danielle Jones would also be “seeking their own new adventures” late this year, confirming an earlier HuffPost report on the shake-up.
Staffers said VandeHei and Politico owner Robert Allbritton have clashed over spending and budgets. A possible split was the talk of the newsroom Thursday, just four days before the Iowa caucuses.
In the world, human beings are facing various problems. People who are full of greed, anger, and ignorance are seen to be fighting with each other in words and deeds. As the fighting continues, various problems such as civil wars, wars of aggression, and wars of aggression are occurring. As world peace is being destroyed, humans are facing unbearable problems. Innocent children and women are not getting the rights they deserve and deserve. I can't think of one thing every time. What is it? The United Nations. If we look at the responsibilities and duties of the United Nations, I think it is not suitable for solving the problems that are happening in the world today. In fact, the United Nations and the World Security Council, such an organization must rule the world, must be able to give orders, and must have various ways to obey orders. There must be no organization that can influence more than that organization. There should be experts from each country. They can even dominate the superpowers like the US, China, and Britain. Only then will global peace be achieved quickly. Now, if a country with power develops more militarily, economically, or socially than its own country, then powerful countries will jealously seek out enemies and wage war. Or they will attack with fighter jets. In this, innocent people are losing their lives. No one understands the value of a life. You should think about how to achieve global peace by controlling these. If the US continues to be the permanent president of the UN, world peace will never be achieved. If you think carefully, no one sees that they are working for the common good, but for their own benefit, for the benefit of their own country. The permanent president of the UN and the Security Council has rejected this, As a young Rohingya, I have come to realize that only by electing the president and secretary from among the countries in the world through a secret ballot system and governing the world fairly can we achieve global peace. The United Nations and the Security Council are organizations in which any country must govern, give orders, and make them obey their orders. For example, only when a defendant is tried in court can we hold the leaders of the countries in check and control them, can we achieve global peace smoothly. Otherwise, it will not be easy for powerful countries to use various excuses to end this war every year, every year, for the benefit of themselves and their countries. No country's leaders pay any attention to the words of the United Nations and the Security Council. If we look at it in practice, look at the Rohingya issue. Myanmar is a small country. Even that country has been under siege for 8 years. What action can be taken? Why is the UN and the Security Council Powerless? Without such Power, how can the organization bring about global peace? Everyone should think about it. Whether there is a veto or a strong one, all countries in the world can only achieve global peace if they are subject to the UN and the Security Council. Seek peace in the quiet embrace of nature. Peace is an indispensable need of the human race. It is not as if one person can kill another person, and it is as if one country can attack another country, but instead of trying to build peace, we must try to destroy the peace now, and the world is getting hotter and is on the verge of collapse. I especially appeal to all the world experts to urgently try to bring about peace in all parts of the world. Mr, Noor Muhamed Arkhan Rohingya Youth Myanmar
