For his 107th Memorial Day, Richard Arvine Overton, who saw many of his fellow soldiers fall in the line of duty in World War II and even more die over the following decades, is planning a quiet day at the Texas home he built after returning home from World War II.

He wouldn’t want it any other way.

Overton, who is believed to be the nation’s oldest veteran, told FoxNews.com he’ll likely spend the day on the porch of his East Austin home with a cigar nestled in his right hand, perhaps with a cup of whiskey-stiffened coffee nearby.

“I don’t know, some people might do something for me, but I’ll be glad just to sit down and rest,” the Army veteran said during a phone interview. “I’m no young man no more.”

Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists.

During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of “doing good” as a principle that unites all humanity, and a “culture of encounter” to support peace.

Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Francis explained how upset Jesus’ disciples were that someone outside their group was doing good, according to a report from Vatican Radio.

President Barack Obama was heckled during a speech at the National Defense University at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

Benjamin began shouting just after Obama began remarks on the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The president repeatedly asked Benjamin if he could finish his remarks, at one point pausing to let her finish yelling.

“I’m willing to cut that young lady interrupting me some slack, because it’s worth being passionate about,” Obama said.

He even went off script to address the heckler.

Handbags contain more bacteria than a toilet. Oh, the irony – the very handbags women use to carry around hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes are filled with more bacteria than the average toilet. The report which broke that unfortunate news also informed the public that one in 5 purse handles is filthy enough to pose a threat to human health. The biggest culprit inside bags is hand moisturizer, said to be equal in bacteria content to the average toilet seat. Mascara and lipstick ranked a bit better. As far as materials, leather is the biggest carrier, as its texture provides the best bacteria habitat. Fear not, the remedy is simple. Cleaning your hands and bags with antibacterial products can stave off potential health crises. Which makes sense, because, as one of the researchers mentioned, purses see a lot of contact with hands and counters and…
