I really like this Syfi series, set 97 years after a nuclear war destroyed all humans on Earth. Fortunately, some humans escaped the annihilation on a spaceship that they now call home.  Unfortunately, the spaceship housing humanity’s lone survivors is running out of food, oxygen and a stable environment.  Because of the radiation levels, they believe Earth will not be inhabitable for another 100 years but because of their dire needs, they send 100 juvenile delinquents to Earth ahead of time in hopes of re-populating the planet.  In other words this faltering spaceship holds the last of mankind.  Because of the limitations on the ship, there are many restrictions in place.  If you are caught committing a crime which can be defined as having more than one baby or saving a life by giving the patient more than the regulated amount of blood or being in an area of the spaceship you’re not designated to be in, the penalty is death — no…

After watching two episodes, I don’t really like The Leftovers.  For so long, we were bombarded with trailers and hype about this series.  Now that it’s a reality, I feel let down.  The Leftovers may turn out to be really good but so far I’m not feeling it.  It seems slow, and down right boring.  1.4 million people, world wide have disappeared alluding to the Rapture.  One town is targeted in this series where 100 of all those who went missing were residents.  Husbands, wives, children, mothers and fathers are gone without explanation.  There are a group of people who dress in white, smoke cigarettes, and don’t speak but recruit others who have lost love ones.  They say (in writing) that they are there so that we don’t forget.  Maybe the show is too new but I don’t get what this group is really all about.  I always thought when the Rapture happened…

There is something about Melissa McCarthy that is so likable.  She is funny and a fantastic actress.  She seems down to Earth — I don’t know if she is but that how she comes off.  Tammy is another one of her silly little comedies that just makes you laugh and have a good time watching it.  It’s not the greatest comedy but it sends some messages that are pretty profound.  Susan Sarandon was great as grandma with diabetes, swollen feet and a drinking problem.  The two of them made a funny, wild pair of misfits who just needed to get a grip on reality.  Some of Melissa’s scenes were so funny, however the element of surprise was taken out of them because Hollywood insist on over shooting the trailers.  I think Melissa is well known for how successfully funny she is without revealing a quarter of the movie in…

I Don’t know who thought up the idea for this movie but it’s ridiculous. According to the government, people need to murder, rob, rape, and commit any and every kind of violent crime known to feel better over a 12 hour period, annually without any consequences. There is no law enforcement available, no hospitals open to anyone and no other facilities opened to the public, that includes the fire department, etc. This means if you become ill for any reason or your house caught on fire you’d be SOL. I guess endless scenarios can be made from a theme like this.  The Purge is definitely a frightening idea. The best I can say about this movie is it’s well acted and interesting. There’re lots of malls along this road.

I was told this is where Shanghai people do their shopping, whereas those malls at Nanjing Road are for clueless tourists.

I suppose a shot like this is not too difficult.

While I was in his face, his attention was elsewhere.

It’s amazing how people (myself included) are generally unaware of other people.

The US Navy is turning seawater into fuel. Scientists at the US Naval Research Lab have been able to extract CO2 and hydrogen from the ocean and repackage it in a form of fuel that could one day power the Navy’s fleet.

As it plies the world’s oceans, the US Navy consumes 1.3 billion gallons of fuel per year. It’s expensive, environmentally damaging and, being derived from oil, a finite source of power. But now, scientists at the Navy’s Research Lab outside Washington, DC, say they’ve come up with an alternative they call “game changing”. They’ve found a way to make fuel from seawater.
