Daddy is our cook, and last night he made a yummy veggie stew with tomatoes, leeks, carrots, asparagus, squash, zucchini, barley, and herbs. It was so, so good in my belly that I couldn’t wait for the new bite while I was eating the one in my mouth. I wanted it to get in my belly faster than I could even swallow it.

Because it cooked for a long time, it was soft and it melted together when you ate it. That’s how stew is, Daddy says. It cooks for a while, and all of the flavors come together in a way that makes it all taste yummy and slide right down into your belly. It makes you warm and cozy, and since it is cold outside here, that is perfect to make you feel sleepy and happy.

Before the food melts together though, it goes into the big strainer…

Scientists know all about the sophisticated calendars and writing system of the Maya, as well as their ritual sacrifices. But as for exactly what caused the the ancient civilization to collapse around 900 A.D., that’s long been a bit of a mystery.

Now a team of researchers from Rice University and Louisiana State University think they may be one step closer to cracking the mystery, thanks in part to evidence from the “Great Blue Hole.” The massive sinkhole located in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Belize was made popular by pioneering conservationist Jacques Cousteau, who visited it in 1971 and declared it one of the world’s best scuba diving sites.

“Anytime you come on scene with something this horrific, where you have juveniles or children involved, it’s pretty unsettling, even to seasoned law enforcement and deputies,” Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter said at a Tuesday press conference.

The siblings, identified as Misty “Ariel” Renee Kornegay, 15, and Nicole Kornegay, 11, both face charges of premeditated murder. The girl’s parents, Keith Kornegay, 37 and Misty Kornegay, 33, are facing charges of child neglect, police said.

I just love this star studded mini series. It’s a musical but a good musical. The music is great, not corny and each production sounds different, not like some musicals that are thrown together hastily. Galavant is a period piece and comedy that tells the story of a prince who’s true love named Madalena, played by Mallory Jansen, was stolen by the evil King Richard, played by Timothy Omundson. As Prince Galavant, played by Joshua Sasse goes on a quest to seek revenge and reclaim his one true love, he teams up with a squire named Sid, played by Luke Youngblood and Princess Isabella Maria Lucia Elizabetta of Valencia, played by Karen David. Together they encounter some very funny situations. It’s been a complete joy to watch this series each week. My only con is that it’s only 8 weeks long. Expect stars like John Stamos as Sir Jean Hamm…

Terrence Howard who plays Lucious Lyon and Taraji P. Henson who plays Cookie Lyon, are among the huge cast of hip-hoppers, singers and actors that fuel this new series.  A secretly dieing CEO of a successful record company is trying to set up his empire so that it runs smoothly and efficiently when he’s gone.  He is divorced from his wife, who just gotten out of prison and is the mother of Lucious’ 3 sons.  Tradition goes out the window when he decides to have his 3 sons Jamal (Jussie Smollett), Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), and Andre (Trai Byers) make a legitimate play for CEO of the company.  He favors one son over the other two but tries to keep that to himself.  His x is clever, demanding and ready for action claiming half of the firm.  Together they are wheeling and dealing So far, the acting…

Not a bad sequel.  Taken 3 is your typical violent, familiar story about a family member, kidnapped, killed, or harmed in some way as a drawing out card for the purpose of seeking revenge on some highly trained agent.  There are so many of these stories around, the only saving grace is how well the story is told, how good the car chases are or how big fights are and how violent the film becomes.  In the end, the task is successful, the revenge is flipped and stuck up the butts of the evil and the point is well taken.  No matter how many times Hollywood takes on these types of stories, the audience is drawn into all the hype and all’s well that ends well.  Since the actual death of his wife, Liam Neeson who plays ex-government operative, Bryan Mills, has certainly emerged himself in movie after movie. …

Selma is the most significant movie to come out of Hollywood on the subject of the Black plight since Amistad.  Selma chronicles a period of 3 months in which the march for the right to vote in 1965 from Selma to Montgomery took place.  This powerful story serves to inform Black and White America from the inside, how an entire race of human beings lived through a Black Holocaust orchestrated by the hands of the very people who enslaved them and used them to build this great nation we live in.  David Oyelowo plays Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the greatest non-violent civil rights leader that ever  lived.  I cried throughout this emotionally packed movie that tells the story of how Black and White supporters were slain and beaten in the pursuance of the Black equal right to vote saga.  Selma also tells the story of hatred in the…

Changes are, you’ve not heard much about this movie. It wasn’t aggressively advertised. The Imitation Game is based on a true story and takes place during World War II.  Britain obtained a most fascinating machine built by the Germans that allowed the Nazis to send daily messages depicting when and where the next attacks would take place.  This device is called the Enigma, which was impossible to decode.  A team of mathematical genius’ were formed to try to break the code and counter the attacks.  Alan Turing, excellently played by Benedict Cumberbatch, was hired to join the team but controversy surrounded his every move.  Kira Knightly played Joan Clarke, Alan’s love interest.  The acting was excellent as The Imitation Game, served to explain a most important part of this historic and tragic time, as well as entertain it’s audience in the process.  Yet another brilliantly told story as a…
