52 Year Cold Case Murder Solved In Huntington Beach

The identities of Orange County’s oldest ‘Jane Doe’ murder victim and her killer are now known thanks to DNA, officials say.

She was known as “Jane Doe” for 52 years. Now, Anita Louise Piteau of Augusta, Maine, is known to be the victim of Huntington Beach’s longest-running cold case. Her killer, Johnny Chrisco, was also identified through familial DNA, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Anita left her home to come to Hollywood, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. She wanted to see where movies were made, and kept in touch with her family by mail. “She had every intention of returning home,” Kimberly Edds of the OCDA’s office told Patch. Her last correspondence was in February of 1968.

They never heard from her again.

Why the ‘Super Weird’ Moons of Mars Fascinate Scientists

.

Mars is the darling of many planetary scientists, who continue to visit it through increasingly advanced robotic explorers. But don’t forget that our planetary neighbor is adorned with two moons: puny Phobos, a lumpy mass 17 miles across; and diminutive Deimos, just 9 miles long. Their names in ancient Greek may mean “fear” and “dread’, but the aesthetics of these Lilliputian space potatoes inspire anything but.

They don’t look anywhere near as interesting as the volcanic or icy-ocean moons of Jupiter and Saturn, nor is their desolation as extreme or diverse as Earth’s moon. But that hasn’t stopped generations of planetary scientists from being eager to get a closer look at the ramshackle duo.

The Soviet Union and, later, Russia have tried three times to reach Phobos, but software errors and launch disasters have doomed every attempt. Scientists in the U.S. have tried and, so far, failed to convince the powers-that-be at NASA that a mission to the two moons will be worthwhile. The next great hope is Japan, which is aiming to launch a heist mission to Phobos in 2024 that will try to steal some of its rocks.

Last call! Comet NEOWISE to be visible for just a few more nights

So far, due to inclement weather, the comet was not visible in my area! 😦

Click the link below the picture

.

One of the biggest celestial surprises of 2020 has been Comet NEOWISE, the brightest comet in the Northern Hemisphere since the 1990s, but time is running out to spot the comet before it fades away into the icy depths of the solar system.

Comet NEOWISE is gradually getting dimmer and dimmer every night as it moves farther and farther away from the sun, and by next week, it may no longer be bright enough to be seen without binoculars or a telescope.

“Right now, the comet is relatively easy to observe with binoculars or a small telescope, provided you have a clear view toward the horizon,” NASA said.

It is still visible to the unaided eye, but only under dark skies in areas far away from light pollution.

Sociopaths and Suicide

Is Donald Trump a Sociopath?

Click the link below the picture

.

Although some see sociopaths as too emotionally deficient to experience the despair necessary to suicide, I see suicide as offering a viable option for some sociopaths, and I’m going to explain why.

Let me start with a bit of crude, brutal logic: for many sociopaths, as we know, life is very much a game; hence, when game over, life over. No more game, what’s left? The answer may be, nothing.

And yet it may be less “despair” and “depression” with which the sociopath is left when his act has been shut-down than his preferring no longer to deal with an existence he knows will cease supplying the gratifications to which he’s grown accustomed, perhaps addicted and certainly privileged.

In the face, then, of this massive problem, the sociopath, with his notorious penchant for escaping inconvenient situations, may consider “checking-out” out of life—suiciding—when it, too, becomes insolubly inconvenient.

Sweden becomes an example of how not to handle COVID-19

.

Stockholm — As many nations introduced strict lockdowns as the coronavirus pandemic took hold earlier this year, Sweden took a totally different approach. You might call it lockdown-lite.

The public health authorities banned gatherings of over 50 people, closed high schools and universities, and advised people to maintain a safe distance. But stores and restaurants have remained open throughout the pandemic, as have elementary and middle schools.

The Swedish authorities argued this was a sustainable plan, one the public would back even if the measures had to stay in place for many months. In the long term, they believed it would protect both lives and the economy.
