Karst is a landscape formed by the dissolution of soluble bedrocks (mainly carbonate rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum), featuring sinkholes, caves, and underground streams. Karst topography is relatively fragile and unstable in geographic terms, yet it creates fabulous and unique landscapes around the world. South of China is a typical region of karst topography, where Guilin’s hills and caves, Yunnan’s Stone Forest, and Guizhou’s Xiaoqikong are the best examples.

It is estimated that some hundred million years ago, the area where Guilin is located was a gulf. In the long years, the seabed was covered with thick calcareous sediments, which were slowly dissolving and shaped by the salty seawater at the same time. Thus the original appearance of Guilin’s hills and caves had been formed. Later came the movements of the earth crust, and the seabed rose, cracked, and gradually formed the landscape of Guilin. After millions of years, with erosions of the wind, rain, and rivers, the hills and caves developed into what we can see today, fantastic and unbelievable.

Freetown is a port city and the capital of Sierra Leone, in West Africa. It’s known for its beaches and historical role in the transatlantic slave trade. The old town’s centuries-old Cotton Tree is a symbol of emancipation. On the waterfront is the King’s Yard Gate, through which former slaves walked to freedom. The Sierra Leone National Museum includes exhibits relating to the 19th-century military leader Bai Bureh.

Freetown is the capital and largest city of Sierra Leone. It is a major port city on the Atlantic Ocean and is located in the Western Area of the country. Freetown is Sierra Leone’s major urban, economic, financial, cultural, educational and political centre, as it is the seat of the Government of Sierra Leone. The population of Freetown was 1,055,964 at the 2015 census.

The city’s economy revolves largely around its harbour, which occupies a part of the estuary of the Sierra Leone River in one of the world’s largest natural deep water harbours.

Uçhisar is a formerly Greek settlement, inhabited by Greeks for over a thousand years, in Cappadocia, in Nevşehir Province, Turkey. The town is 7 kilometres east of Nevşehir, 12 kilometres west of Ürgüp, and 10 kilometres south of Avanos.

Green Spain (direct translation into English of the Spanish España Verde) is the name given to a lush natural region in Northern Spain, stretching along the Atlantic coast from the border with Portugal to the border with France.

The region includes nearly all of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria plus the northern parts of the Basque Country, as well as a minor portion of Navarre.

Metasequoia, or dawn redwood, is a fast-growing deciduous tree, one of three species of conifers known as redwoods, and the sole living species in its genus. It is native to Lichuan county in Hubei province, China. Although the shortest of the redwoods, it grows to at least 165 feet in height.
