John Pugliano, author of “The Robots are Coming: A Human’s Survival Guide to Profiting in the Age of Automation,” sees plenty of white collar jobs that will be threatened by automation.
“Bottom line, any routine job that can easily be defined by a mathematical or logic equation will be at risk,” Pugliano said. “Opportunity will be [there] for those that can create new produces/services or solve/fix unexpected problems.”
So your accountant may not have a job in the future, but plastic surgeons and emergency room doctors should do well. And plumbers, Pugliano said, will always have work.

Meghan McCain delivered a fierce and emotional tribute to her late father, Sen. John McCain, in her eulogy at his memorial service, which also served as a powerful admonishment of the president and his political style.
Meghan McCain didn’t name President Donald Trump as she spoke at the Washington National Cathedral on Saturday, but the target of her message was clear.
“The America of John McCain is generous and welcoming and bold,” Meghan McCain said. “She is resourceful and confident and secure. She meets her responsibilities. She speaks quietly because she is strong. America does not boast because she has no need to.
“The America of John McCain has no need to be great again because America was always great.”

This is particularly the case when it comes to time management. We’re told that children need lots of unstructured time, and it’s up to us to cultivate it. But we’re also told that children need to be challenged and inspired, and it’s up to us to arrange it. So off we go to karate and violin and religious school and soccer and dance, while making sure there is enough time in there for wandering in the woods or building a treehouse, or whatever else passes for low-pressure character-building these days.

As a parent of a 5- and a 1-year-old, I’m fairly new to the scheduling trenches. And yet a small voice has emerged, a faint chant from the back of my brain, repeating: Where do my needs fit into all this?

Another minority-lead blockbuster has defied industry expectations by posting a massive opening ticket sales at the box office.
“Crazy Rich Asians” surpassed predictions but experts with a $34 million 5-day opening. Industry expectations had the all-Asian cast on track to make $25 million through its first weekend in theaters, but audiences seemed to fall in love with the first Hollywood blockbuster to feature an all-Asian cast since “The Joy Luck Club” 25 years ago.
Those starring in the film adaption of Kevin Kwan’s novel include well-established actors such as Michelle Yeoh, Ken Jeong and Constance Wu. The movie also features breakout Asian stars such as Henry Golding and Awkwafina, whose real name is Nora Lum.

One day after President Trump stripped former CIA director John Brennan of his security clearance, the commander of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden said it would be an honor if the president would take away his clearance next.
William H. McRaven, a retired four-star admiral who as head of the U.S. Special Operations Command oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid, directly addressed Trump in a Washington Post op-ed published online Thursday.
In the op-ed, McRaven, who retired from the Navy in 2014, described Brennan as “a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.”

A mind-controlling parasite found in cat feces may give people the courage they need to become entrepreneurs, researchers reported Tuesday.
They found that people who have been infected with the Toxoplasma gondii parasite are more likely to major in business and to have started their own businesses than non-infected people.
The parasite, which makes rodents unafraid of cats, may be reducing the fear of failure in people, Stefanie Johnson of the University of Colorado and colleagues said.

Aretha Franklin — the first woman to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and known as the “Queen of Soul” for powerful anthems like “Respect” and “Chain of Fools” — died Thursday morning at her home in Detroit. She was 76.
Franklin died of pancreatic cancer, the singer’s publicist said in a statement issued by the family.
“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart,” the family said. “We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”

Monument Valley, a red-sand desert region on the Arizona-Utah border, is known for the towering sandstone buttes of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. The park, frequently a filming location for Western movies, is accessed by the looping, 17-mile Valley Drive. The famous, steeply sloped Mittens buttes can be viewed from the road or from overlooks such as John Ford’s Point.

A solar-powered drone that can stay aloft for weeks or months at a time could one day replace expensive satellites in space for certain tasks, such as monitoring the environment and snapping photos from super-high altitudes.
The latest model of the so-called Zephyr drone was revealed by Airbus last week. The drone embarked on a test flight on July 11 and has been circling high above Arizona, miles above the weather and regular air traffic, ever since. The drone is slated to land in early August.
Solar panels on the drone’s wings power its electric motors and charge its batteries during the day. At night, the motors are driven by the batteries alone.
