On Monday evening, Don Davis had been given what was to be his last meal at the Cummins Unit, the Arkansas prison that houses the state’s execution chamber. As midnight approached, his fate remained unclear pending further court action.
.
Davis had been one of eight Arkansas inmates scheduled to die this month.
His attorney sought a stay of execution, and on Monday, the Arkansas Supreme Court granted a delay in the executions of Davis and another inmate, Bruce Ward.
.
But Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge asked the US Supreme Court to overrule the state court to proceed with Davis’ execution.

The fugitive who filmed himself killing an elderly Cleveland man was brought down by a craving for fast food.
An eagle-eyed drive-through attendant at a McDonald’s in Erie, Pennsylvania, recognized Steve Stephens after he pulled up in his white Ford Focus and ordered McNuggets and French fries, the franchise’s owner said. That’s when quick-thinking employees tried to stall him, holding on to his fries while they called the cops.
Stephens was in no mood to wait, driving off with his McNuggets after apparently realizing he’d been spotted. But it wasn’t long before state police officers were on his tail, leading to a brief car chase that ended with Stephens shooting and killing himself — a grim finale to a three-day manhunt that had started some 100 miles away.

April the giraffe welcomed a not-so-little bundle of joy Saturday morning after animal lovers devoted weeks to watching and waiting.
.
April is one of the most popular residents at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York. Fans have kept up with her for weeks as she anticipated the birth of her fourth calf. April is 15 years old.
After a 16-month gestation period, the wait finally ended with the male calf’s debut in a livestream from the zoo. At the time of the birth, 1.25 million people were watching the livestream. It is the first time a calf has been born in the animal park.

The bruised and bloodied passenger who was forcibly removed this week from an United Airlines flight lost two front teeth and suffered a broken nose and “significant concussion” in the ordeal, his lawyers said Thursday.
Dr. David Dao, who fled war-torn Saigon before immigrating to America in 1975, was released from the hospital Wednesday, but will need reconstructive surgery and remains “shaken” by the experience, attorney Thomas Demetrio told reporters in Chicago.
“He said that being dragged down the aisle was more horrifying and harrowing than what he experienced in leaving Vietnam,” Demetrio said.

Amid rising tensions with North Korea and new evidence of a failed missile test, Sen. John McCain said Sunday that “this could be the first test, real test, of the Trump presidency.”
McCain, R-Arizona, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, added that China will be “key” in how the world addresses the situation.
“They can stop this if they want to because of their control over the North Korean economy,” McCain said on “Meet the Press.”
“There are artillery on the border between North and South Korea that can reach Seoul and we can’t take them all out before — I mean, this is a very serious. This may be the first test of this presidency. But China can shut them down. Whether they are currency manipulators or not, we should expect them to act to prevent what could be a cataclysmic event.”

Turns out, people still care about President Trump’s tax returns.
On Saturday, protesters descended on Capitol Hill and cities across the U.S. to demand that Trump make his most recent tax returns public. It’s something every president and presidential nominee has done for the past 40 years.
The organizers of Saturday’s marches say more than 180 events are planned across 48 states and the District of Columbia.
By Saturday afternoon, images of crowds in cities including D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago and New York began cropping up on social media.

Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s grenade-lobbing pugilist of a chief strategist, has a fitting nickname for his West Wing office: “the war room.”
But more and more, war is being waged on Mr. Bannon himself. And it is unclear how much longer he can survive in his job.
His isolation inside the White House, after weeks of battle with senior aides aligned with Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, appeared to grow even starker this week after Mr. Trump undercut Mr. Bannon in two interviews and played down his role in the Trump presidential campaign.
“I am my own strategist,” Mr. Trump told the New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin in an interview on Tuesday, a pointed reference to what aides described as his growing irritation that Mr. Bannon’s allies are calling him the mastermind behind Mr. Trump’s victory and the torch bearer for the nationalist, conservative brand of populism that has defined his presidency.

From Seattle to the District, protesters are gathering in cities throughout the country Saturday to call on President Trump to release his personal tax returns. The protests fall on the country’s traditionally recognized deadline to file taxes, April 15.
In all, more than 100 marches are expected to occur throughout the day. The main march unfolded in the nation’s capital, where protesters gathered for a rally in front of the Capitol and then planned to march near the Lincoln Memorial in the afternoon. In South Florida, activists say they will march to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, where the president is staying this weekend.
Presidents are not required to release their tax returns but have done so voluntarily dating to the 1970s.
In Washington, participants at the march portrayed the president as a greedy politician who refuses to be open about his financial dealings.

Federal regulations designed to give you more control over your web browsing history and other personal information may soon be eliminated.
There are steps you can take to protect yourself — but you’ll have to do more than set your browser to private mode. And there is no perfect solution, experts agree.
The House of Representatives voted Tuesday to repeal Internet privacy protections that were approved by the Federal Communications Commission in the final days of the Obama administration, following a Senate vote last week to roll back the rules.
.
The protections would have required internet service providers, such as Comcast (CCV) or CenturyLink, to ask for permission before tracking and selling users’ information. The resolution now goes to President Trump’s desk, and the White House said Tuesday it “strongly supports” the repeal.
The information in question includes everything from where you are to what you’re looking at online. A provider could infer that you’re sick, for example, because you looked at WebMD.
