Sam Shepard, the experimentalist cowboy-style poet who became one of the most significant American playwrights of the 20th century, honored with the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for drama for his play “Buried Child” and with an Oscar nomination for his acting role as aviator Chuck Yeager in the 1983 film “The Right Stuff,” died July 27 at his farm in Kentucky. He was 73.
A family spokesman, Chris Boneau, confirmed his death and said the cause was complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Mr. Shepard came of age writing poetry and plays in the 1960s as alternative experimentation transformed the theater scene. As a playwright, he created an original, influential tone fusing rock-and-roll spirit, Tennessee Williams-style brutal lyricism and a 1960s radical attack on realism.

It is amazing how one man could hypnotize all those people into following his evil concepts.
The thoughts of him not having been stopped are frightening.
These color pictures were taken by a Life photographer between 1939 and 1940 in Berlin and were lost for over 70 years because the American photographer disappeared at the beginning of the war, along with his Roliflex camera.Shown here are the originals (used at that time in the production of magazines). The majority are 6″x 9″. They were found by a nurse in a Berlin hospital, who kept them put away during all these years. After her death, her daughter returned them to the current editors, who retain the copyrights to Life Magazine, which has not been published since the early ’70s.
George A. Romero — the writer and director behind the cult-classic horror flick “Night of the Living Dead” — died Sunday. He was 77.
Romero has been called the “father of modern horror films.” He died following “a brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer,” his longtime production partner Peter Grunwald told CNN.
Grunwald said Romero passed away “peacefully in his sleep” while “listening to the score of ‘The Quiet Man,’ one his all-time favorite films, with his wife Suzanne Desrocher Romero, and daughter, Tina Romero, at his side.”
“[Romero] leaves behind a loving family, many friends and a filmmaking legacy that has endured, and will continue to endure, the test of time,” Grunwald said.

For many reasons, Captain America: Civil War may very well go down as one of the more historic films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only did Civil War successfully adapt one of the more iconic Marvel storylines, but the film introduced two new characters to the MCU. The first, Spider-Man, is easily one of the most popular characters in comics. The second, T’Challa, aka Black Panther, may not be as generally well known — but he sure is important.
In February 2018, T’Challa will return to the big screen in Black Panther, a film that’s set to take place shortly after the events of Civil War. Only a few months later, Black Panther will suit up for Avengers: Infinity War, the culmination of the entire MCU to date. And with the character set to play such an important role in the future of the MCU, now seems like a pretty good time to delve a bit deeper into the history of the Wakandan king. tangie
