The comedian Dick Gregory rose to national prominence in the early 1960s as a black satirist whose audacious style of humor was biting, subversive and topical, mostly centered on current events, politics and above all, racial tensions. His trademark was the searing punchline.
“A Southern liberal?” he once said. “That’s a guy that’ll lynch you from a low tree.” Another: “When I get drunk, I think I’m Polish. One night I got so drunk I moved out of my own neighborhood.” On segregation: “I know the South very well. I spent 20 years there one night.”
Mr. Gregory, 84, died Aug. 19 in Washington. His son, Christian Gregory, announced the death on Mr. Gregory’s official social media accounts. The cause was not reported.

Two female artists are embarking on a rather, um, unusual mission: to collect 1,001 butts. Yes, butts.
Montreal-based artists Emilie Mercier and Frédérique Marseille are photographing women’s backsides in an attempt to celebrate the beauty of the female derrière.
Through the “1001 Fesses” — or 1001 Bums — photographic project, they hope to address the insecurities they feel about their bottoms, and explore the way other women feel about their own bodies.

Earlier this month one of Ghana’s renowned and talented photography names, Emmanuel Bobbie of Bobpixel photography turned 41. (Happy belated birthday Uncle Bob)
If you asked me I think that’s quite a young age for a man who has accomplished so much in his life as a photographer. In 2005, a young Bobbie moved to Ghana to begin working as lensman after working and living in the United Kingdom for a number of years.
According to him, the passion for photography had always been with him especially during his days as a Graphic and design student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where reading a course in photography was not negotiable.
In his 2014 interview with Obed Boafo’s Enewsgh.com, the man who has his works spread across the city, on people’s phones, laptops and the nation as a whole admits that it wasn’t as rosy when he begun shooting despite the few number of professionals in the industry.
“The digital age had just started and there weren’t a lot of people in the industry like there is now. It was late 2005 when I came in and I heard a few names, and these were guys who were into photography for certain people. I didn’t have a place in the industry so I had to start shooting weddings and self-projects and people started seeing my works and it took off from there.” He recalls.

I’ve never been a big fan of astronomical events: there are just too many meteor showers or planet transits to keep up with, and a slightly larger Moon just doesn’t do much for me. But I have completely shed my cynical attitude regarding the upcoming total solar eclipse. The more I learn about it, the more excited I am to see it — and to photograph it. I’ll be heading down to Nashville, which lies in the path of the eclipse’s shadow, so I’ll have the opportunity to get an incredible snapshot of the Sun completely covered by the Moon.
I consider myself an amateur photographer, but I’ve never tried taking pictures of celestial events before, and I’ve never even witnessed an eclipse. So I turned to a self-proclaimed astrophotographer Justin Starr to give me some tips about how to best snap a picture of the Sun — before, during, and after totality. Watch his demonstration in the video above and check out a summary of his suggestions below.

Chloe Ayling, a 20-year-old mother of one, said she was attacked by two men after arriving in Milan in mid-July to take part in a photo shoot arranged by her agent.
.
Ayling was drugged and placed in a bag before being transported to a cabin in a remote town in the Italian Alps, she told authorities.
.
“A person wearing black gloves came up from behind and put one hand on my neck and the other on my mouth, while a second person, wearing a black balaclava, injected me in my right arm,” she said in a statement to police, which was published by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Several times a year, George Mixis wanders the hallways of the Phoenix-based Barrow Neurological Institute strumming tunes on his guitar. He walks past the unit’s 35 patient rooms at the Dignity Health facility, where he is employed as a maintenance worker, seeing which ones have open doors and inviting ears. Mixis is careful not to push his music on anyone, but he’ll perform an intimate, impromptu concert for any welcoming patients and their visitors.
In a recent conversation, Mixis recalled poignant moments of healing his music helped to provide, such as the time a teenager with impaired motor skills brought tears to his mother’s eyes when he sang along with Mixis, and the days when Mixis’s own wife, a fellow guitarist, had been hospitalized for a stroke but brightened whenever her husband brought in his guitar.
“Music is a vehicle that affects people,” Mixis said. “It’s the music, and it’s the sharing. They go hand in hand.”
