Fox News later apologized for the error.
“We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends,” Jessica Santostefano, Fox News’ vice president, media desk, said in a statement. “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.”

Another minority-lead blockbuster has defied industry expectations by posting a massive opening ticket sales at the box office.
“Crazy Rich Asians” surpassed predictions but experts with a $34 million 5-day opening. Industry expectations had the all-Asian cast on track to make $25 million through its first weekend in theaters, but audiences seemed to fall in love with the first Hollywood blockbuster to feature an all-Asian cast since “The Joy Luck Club” 25 years ago.
Those starring in the film adaption of Kevin Kwan’s novel include well-established actors such as Michelle Yeoh, Ken Jeong and Constance Wu. The movie also features breakout Asian stars such as Henry Golding and Awkwafina, whose real name is Nora Lum.

A mind-controlling parasite found in cat feces may give people the courage they need to become entrepreneurs, researchers reported Tuesday.
They found that people who have been infected with the Toxoplasma gondii parasite are more likely to major in business and to have started their own businesses than non-infected people.
The parasite, which makes rodents unafraid of cats, may be reducing the fear of failure in people, Stefanie Johnson of the University of Colorado and colleagues said.

Aretha Franklin — the first woman to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and known as the “Queen of Soul” for powerful anthems like “Respect” and “Chain of Fools” — died Thursday morning at her home in Detroit. She was 76.
Franklin died of pancreatic cancer, the singer’s publicist said in a statement issued by the family.
“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart,” the family said. “We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”

Philip Roth, whose sexually scandalous comic novel “Portnoy’s Complaint” brought him literary celebrity after its publication in 1969 and who was eventually hailed as one of America’s greatest living authors for the blunt force and controlled fury of his dozens of later works, died May 22 at hospital in Manhattan. He was 85.
His literary agent, Andrew Wylie, confirmed the death to the Associated Press and said the cause was congestive heart failure. No other details were immediately available.
Mr. Roth’s 1959 debut story collection, “Goodbye, Columbus,” earned him the first of two National Book Awards. He would go on to publish 27 novels, two memoirs and several more story collections by the time he publicly retired from writing in 2012. His lifelong themes included sex and desire, health and mortality, and Jewishness and its obligations — arguably his most definitive subject, given the controversy surrounding his earliest works.

Tom Wolfe, the author whose groundbreaking and radiant journalism helped create a new genre of nonfiction in books like “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test” and “The Right Stuff,” has died. He was 88.
Wolfe’s death was confirmed by his agent, Lynn Nesbit.
Wolfe, always impeccably attired and often spotted strolling around New York City in his signature white three-piece suit, was one of the leading practitioners of so-called New Journalism, a style that fused novelistic flair with traditional reporting.
He chronicled the social upheavals of America, immersing readers in everything from the California hippie counterculture to the space race. He peppered his writing with gleeful punctuation and memorable phrases — coining era-defining expressions like “radical chic” and “the Me Generation.”
