A picture of two young girls holding hands during kindergarten naptime in Mississippi has been hailed as a symbol of hope.

The photo, of two six-year-old girls heads down and hands intertwined asleep on the floor with their shoes placed by their heads, was posted on Facebook by their teacher accompanied by a Bible quotation.

‘Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7,’ the caption read.
