An electric car fueled by social interaction completed a 1,000 mile-plus journey from Kansas City, Mo., to Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

A group of 17 high schoolers and eight mentors left Kansas City on May 31 in a restored 1967 Karmann Ghia — a small two-seater — to travel across the country. They were members of Minddrive, an educational non-profit program that uses hands-on projects to teach at-risk kids about math and science. The social good endeavor, dubbed the “social fuel tour,” was also about social media and awareness. The car, rebuilt with an Arduino device that monitored social media activity, triggered the vehicle’s motor based on the number of tweets and posts about the project.

“We took a long time trying to figure out how to convert social media into the wattage that we needed,” Linda Buchner, the president and cofounder of Minddrive, told

Perceptions of Jews by Renowned Gentiles:

“Some people like the Jews, and some do not. But no thoughtful man can deny the fact that they are, beyond any question, the most formidable and the most remarkable race which has appeared in the world.”

— Winston Churchill

“The Jew is that sacred being who has brought down from heaven the everlasting fire, and has illumined with it the entire world. He is the religious source, spring, and fountain out of which all the rest of the peoples have drawn their beliefs and their religions.”

— Leo Tolstoy

I owe all of you one.

For being miserable and spreading the misery. Alas. The more I try and change it, the more it stays the same.

Going through the motions.

Breathe in, breathe out. Eat. Sleep. Exist.

No enthusiasm. No real zest for anything.

It should pass. It may not.

I might make it. I might not.

For now, I’m just trying not to drown in my own sorrows.

And if, tomorrow, I find something to smile about, I’ll be sure to spread it around the world.

Maybe the prospect of a weekend spent under my car’s bonnet might bring some relief.

Maybe the Universe itself will get as sick of my lamenting as I am of it and bring some change.

Until then, I wish you a good night.

There will be water if G-d wills it…

Vegetarians may live longer than meat-lovers, new research suggests.

Scientists in California analyzed the diets of 73,300 Seventh Day Adventists, and found that vegetarians were less likely to die from any cause or from cause-specific reasons, except for cancer, compared to those who ate meat.

“Certain vegetarian diets are associated with reductions in all causes of [death] as well as some specific causes including heart disease, kidney-related deaths and endocrine disease-related death such as diabetes,” said lead researcher Dr. Michael Orlich, a preventive medicine specialist at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda.

The big question is why, and the study wasn’t designed to answer that, Orlich noted.

“Reductions in meat in the vegetarian diet may be part of it, but it may be due to higher quantities of plant foods,” he added, although it is also possible that vegetarians may lead more healthy lives.

Height: 5’4″
Before Weight: 238 pounds

How I Gained It: I think I started gaining weight as soon as I was born! I would always complain about my mom’s cooking. I would complain so much that my parents would go out and get me fast food, or buy me whatever junk food I wanted from the store. The food I picked out would then become “mine”, and no one else was allowed to touch it. For the most part, everyone got along at my school and l was so lucky that I was never made fun of. I felt like my weight wasn’t a huge deal.

The most embarrassing thing that happened was in a middle school class. One day, our teacher had to guess the weight of each student for a physics experiment. He guessed way under what…

Rugăminte

Da, am cules trei nori,
…speranţa s-o văd, iar
…s-alung jalnica stare,
…şi altfel, să apar.

Nu te gândi,
…că o să spun, acum
De ce , unde şi cum!
…voi merge mai departe,
dar nu ştiu pe ce drum.

Lasă-mă, trei secunde….
…vreau cerul, să-mi zâmbească,
Căci ploaia m-a vrăjit,
…voia să mă răpească.

E trist,
Ba nu, e bine…
..şi eu sunt bine, chiar…
Marea eternitate,
…mi-a smuls din vise, iar.

Dar asta nu contează,
…voi depăşi momentul,
Acum, mă pregătesc…
… să-mi schimb temperamentul.

Sunt calmă,mult prea calmă
…nu vreau să mai oftez…
Mă liniştesc mai mult.
…de ce să mă stresez ?

Şi-aş vrea să spun ceva,
…căci încă mai trăiesc,
De am anume stări,
… sunt om şi eu !
Greşesc!

Nu te lăsa cuprins,
…de literele mele,
Uneşte-le de vrei,
Dar nu trăi din ele !

Şi da,sunt stări profunde,
…şi n-o să le-nţelegi,
Nu-mi pune întrebări,
…nu sta să le alegi !

Şi mare rugăminte,
… de vrei să nu mă supăr,
Citeşte doar în gând,
…când vreau să sufăr, sufăr…

Hours before she killed her two sons, her ex-husband and her stepmother and tried to frame it on one of the slain children, Susan Hendricks gathered her family together to pray. She said she was worried about her older son, Matthew, because he seemed so down after several people forgot his birthday the day before.

“I know it sounds pretty fricking bizarre, but we pray a lot as a family,” Hendricks told investigators in a room at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, just hours after authorities discovered the bodies.

They all got on their knees and held hands, Hendricks said. Less than 12 hours later, she said, she found Matthew, 23, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. When paramedics who rushed to the home found the bodies of her other family members, Hendricks claimed Matthew had first killed them before turning the…
