The amazing story of a marriage marked by fantastical coincidences ended with the couple passing away within one day of each other, reports the Daily Mail.

94-year-old Les Brown died on July 17 in Southern California, just one day after the death of his wife, Helen. She was also 94. It made a certain type of cosmic sense. The couple, who celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary last year, were actually born on the same day — New Years Eve in 1918.

After becoming teenage sweethearts in high school, the Browns married when they were just 18. Instead of a lavish wedding, however, they eloped, due to the objections of their parents, who thought a marriage between a wealthy man and blue-collar girl would never last.

INDIFFERENCE / COLD BEHAVIOUR

Accept it or not, it is a travesty of fact that we in our lives are shown short shrift many a times. More so, in case of senior citizens, when they are constrained to take somebody else succor even for attending to their minutest needs. Their opinion is not counted in any important matter of the household; notwithstanding the fact that may be everything that is there in the house is due to their hard labour during their life time!

This indifference or cold shouldering is experienced in the office or may be at homes. It is also observed that when somebody at the helm shows indifference to us, we experience deep pain, more pronounced, treatment meted out to you is sudden or when you least expected the same.

You can just imagine three case scenarios:-

• Workplace. How would you feel when suddenly…

If in the line of duty, in the midst of a fight for you,

I lose my life for you,

Defending and guarding you,

And after me, my family needs help,

Your concern and care, in their time of despair

Can you promise that you’ll be there?

↔

If I’m enveloped by dispute, I’m blamed, and scorned,

With every door sealed, and all hope gone,

With no one to console me, And no one to care,

My stories of pain and agony, none to share,

Can I count on you?

Can you promise that you’ll be there?

↔

If I become ill in the line of duty,

And don’t stay as healthy,

Agile, young, and strong,

In times of annihilation and total despair,

Can I count on you?

Can you promise that you’ll be there?

↔

In some unknown warehouse presumably sits a pile of millions of beautiful, unused Surface RTs, the tablet computer that was supposed to resurrect Microsoft. Late Thursday, the company revealed for the first time that it has failed to entice many people to buy the product, and the software maker made an unexpected, $900 million writeoff on its unsold Surface inventory. The losses don’t end there: On Friday morning, Microsoft shed $30 billion in value after its stock tumbled 10 percent.

According to one calculation, that loss translates to nearly 6 million sleek and rather stunning machines that consumers have decided they don’t care to own. No matter how the math works out — the company would not provide exact sales numbers — that heap of Surfaces just burned a nearly $1 billion hole in Microsoft’s pocket.

Leontine G. sent in a troubling example of the framing of children’s deviance, and their own complicity in this framing. She included two links: one to a “Today” show story about a 7-year-old boy who took his family’s car on a joyride and got caught by police, and one to a CNN story about a 7-year-old boy who took his family’s car on a joyride and got caught by police. Different 7-year-olds. One white, one black.

The white boy, Preston, is interviewed with his family on the set of the “Today” show. Knowing his kid is safe, his Dad describes the event as “funny” and tells the audience that if this could happen to a “cotton candy all-American kid like Preston,” then “it could happen to anybody.”

When the host, Meredith Vieira, asks Preston why he hid from the police, he says, “cause I…

Twice as many Americans view House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) negatively than view him positively, according to an NBC/WSJ poll released Wednesday. Poll respondents ranked Boehner just ahead of Edward Snowden and George Zimmerman in popularity.

Only 18 percent of Americans have a positive opinion of Boehner, while 36 percent view him negatively, the poll found. Boehner’s unfavorable ratings, which stood at 29 percent last December, jumped in the aftermath of January’s fiscal cliff debate.

Russian photographer Vadim Makhorov loves to view the world from an extremely high vantage point.

Traveling the globe with his thrill-seeking comrades, Makhorov photographs cities from their highest, most unusual and hard-to-reach places. The team stopped in Dubai to capture one of the worlds most luxurious and expensive cities from above.

“Most of all, we were interested in Dubai’s roofs and the views from them,” Makhorov documented on his blog. “Climbing on the roofs abroad isn’t like climbing in Russia.”
