Resistance in a Coal-Fired Power Plant — Repost

Resistance is Futile! You may have heard that before. Especially if you are a Star Trek Fan. If not, then you know that there is always some form of resistance wherever you are.
Captain Picard as Locutus trying to convince you that “Resistance is Futile” Like that is ever going to happen
I learned a lot about resistance when I first joined the electric shop at the coal-fired power plant in North Central Oklahoma in 1984. I was assigned to work with Sonny Kendrick and Bill Rivers on the Precipitator during overhauls and when I wasn’t working on the manhole pumps and there wasn’t any other emergencies going on. Actually, from 1984 on, on, the Precipitator for the next 17 years I continued to work on the precipitator… (if I had only known my fate….).
Not only did I learn a lot about resistance, I…

Ancient Virus ‘Resurrected’ From 30,000-Year-Old Ice In Siberia
April 24, 2014
Huffpost Science
In what seems like a plot straight out of a low-budget science-fiction film, scientists have revived a giant virus that was buried in Siberian ice for 30,000 years — and it is still infectious. Its targets, fortunately, are amoebae, but the researchers suggest that as Earth’s ice melts, this could trigger the return of other ancient viruses, with potential risks for human health.
The newly thawed virus is the biggest one ever found. At 1.5 micrometres long, it is comparable in size to a small bacterium. Evolutionary biologists Jean-Michel Claverie and Chantal Abergel, the husband-and-wife team at Aix-Marseille University in France who led the work, named it Pithovirus sibericum, inspired by the Greek word ‘pithos’ for the large container used by the ancient Greeks to store wine and food. “We’re French, so we had to put wine in the story,” says…

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL (2014) – My rating: 7.5/10
April 23, 2014
Heaven is for Real was pretty good. A 4 year old boy had a near death experience when his appendix ruptured.
He survived the ordeal only to tell his parents about people and events that took place in heaven that he couldn’t possibly know about. He even met Jesus. It is my understanding from the Bible, that we will not have these earthly bodies in Heaven and when Jesus returns, we will all be judged, therefore no one should be in Heaven (except the original angels) until the Rapture. I was always under the impression when you die, you are in a deep sleep or unconscientiousness until judgement day. This is only my interpretation so I could be mistaken. Also, everything shown in the coming attractions was not shown in the movie which is a pet peeve of mine.
I had the privilege of meeting the real family with their son at my church a few weeks ago. They…

Man Allegedly Raped Baby, Filmed It On Cell Phone: Police
April 23, 2014
Huffpost Crime
An Arkansas man faces multiple felony charges after police said he raped a 2-year-old and filmed the deplorable act using a cell phone camera.
Scott Sholds, 31, was arrested on suspicion of distributing, possession and viewing child pornography, computer exploitation of a child and felony rape or sexual intercourse on Wednesday, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect’s ex-girlfriend alerted police after discovering a disturbing cell phone video of a man, whom she identified as Sholds, allegedly having intercourse with a child, according to 5 News Online. She told police that she found the video on her cell phone after her son had taken the device and given it to Sholds, who is the boy’s father.

Loneliness woke me up,
Encouraging desperation,
When I tried to make it stop,
I looked outside for inspiration.
What I saw was unfortunate,
Showing the departure of hope,
Positive feelings in a debate,
I have to ask you, why mope?
Darker you are this morning,
Seems heavy with sorrow,
Perhaps, not to your liking,
Carrying the burden, I know,
Why, O, why you do this?
When you can stay there,
Is there something amiss?
That you do not even care?
Floating in the thin air,
Loving the view below,
You see me in despair,
In misery, you know.
Cannot watch you gray longer,
I feel your temptation to go away,
Do leave, be gone somewhere,
Keep me dry and empty today.
But, you seem not the type,
To balk, defy, or torment,
Oh, yes, the time is ripe,
To unleash your torrent.
I call out to you, right now,
Pour…

College student pulls ultimate prank on strict professor
April 22, 2014
This past April Fools’ Day, a professor’s strict no-phone policy set one student up to pull the ultimate prank in class, which was caught on video and is now going viral.
(Note: Stop reading here and watch the video if you want the surprise.)
Professor Stephen Barrows, an economics professor at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., has a pretty straightforward policy when it comes to phones in class — if it rings, you have to answer the call on speaker phone.
The clip begins with Barrow telling student Taylor Nefcy to answer her ringing phone, reminding her, “You have to answer it!”
So she does, only to be greeted by an unexpected message:
“Hi, this is Kevin from the Pregnancy Resource Center. Per your request, I am calling to inform you that the test results have come back positive. Congratulations.”
San Francisco Skies
April 22, 2014
Last week, there were a couple dreary days in San Francisco with heavy fog and windchill, but I love the way the clouds sit heavily on the antenna tower at the top of Twin Peaks. I was playing around with heavy post-processing and evoking a darker mood in these pictures.
Anyways, happy Easter everyone!
Forgive And Forget????
April 22, 2014
Are you a human? If your answers yes then you must definitely had a fight with some other human bean ;).After the fight did you ever think of forgiving that person.99.9% of the people would say no. I myself would learn karate, get a black belt and kick that person you know where instead of forgiving and “FORGET” EXCUSE ME WHAT DOES “THAT”WORD MEAN?
But not forgiving and forgetting can also cost you a lot for starters:
1) You’ll become old before your grandparents .And when your grandchildren ask granny why is your hair white is it because of wisdom?you’ll have no choice but to tell them “ NO ,I never forgave and therefore I also never forgot” .
2) Instead of going to sleep at night like other people you’ll lay awake in bed thinking of ways to take revenge which could lead to insomnia making you a zombie…

Self-Accepting Your Self-Awareness Without Being Self-Absorbed
April 22, 2014
I’ve been thinking about the importance of self-awareness and self-acceptance. Prompted by a conversation I was following on the internet, the original question was how does one go about accepting themselves the way they are, so they can stop worrying about all the stuff they wish were different about themselves.
I do not believe anyone is so flawless they should just sit back and “self-acceptance” themselves until they die. Self-awareness is far more valuable in my opinion.
I would love to know what the general consensus is out there…plus, I tend to make a point of finding all the polls on WordPress. I love quick polls asking me what I think.
Polls = Mad Fun
For the polls, I thought I would explain briefly the differences for those of you who have been too busy to catch the most recent buzz words. 🙂
Self-Awareness
- Self-Awareness: Self-awareness is a psychological state in which people…
