BLACK BOX – My rating: 8.5/10
May 3, 2014
After only 2 episodes, Black Box is a hit. This series is about Catherine Black, a neuroscientist who works at the Center for Neurological Research and Treatment, and who happens to be Bi-Polar.
Dr. Black, played by Kelly Reilly, is practicing without revealing her disease. While she is undergoing therapy with a psychologist (Dr. Hartramph) played by Vanessa Redgrave, she continues to skip taking her meds and confesses all results of her behavioral problems. Meanwhile, Dr. Black has a daughter who is being raised by her sister-in-law and her brother. Of course the child doesn’t know her favorite aunt is really her mother. Dr. Black also has a
fiancé
who she’s revealing, little by little, her character along with her many secrets. So far, the series focuses on strange and unique cases of people with neuro or psychological problems. Each week Dr. Black and her team resolves their problems. Black Box slightly reminds me…

Facebook Knows Everything About You, And If You Don’t Believe Us Here’s Proof
May 3, 2014
Huffpost Technology
A marketing stunt for the upcoming Ubisoft game “Watch Dogs” is inadvertently allowing users to check how well they’ve set up their Facebook privacy settings.
The campaign called “Digital Shadow”, which currently is available only in the US, requests permission to access a user’s account and then pulls information to build a comprehensive dossier of the user as if he or she were an assassin’s target. And we do mean comprehensive.

Past the Gateway of Sound
May 2, 2014
Through the gateway,
and into the elusive storms of sound,
where all silence folds into past,
problems swept aside,
future suspended,
only imagination left to spin solid realities,
fairies to dance with silver song on purple mountains tops,
through gleaming mists of sunset,
a mass of moving shadows to twirl in spirals of lavender noise,
music to fall in slow recession from an indigo sky,
violinists to play endlessly into sweet summer nights,
music to whisper warmth in hollow hearts,
and soothe the aching landscapes with soft lullabies
Two Giant Banks, Seen as Immune, Become Targets
May 2, 2014

Federal prosecutors are nearing criminal charges against some of the world’s biggest banks, according to lawyers briefed on the matter, a development that could produce the first guilty plea from a major bank in more than two decades.
In doing so, prosecutors are confronting the popular belief that Wall Street institutions have grown so important to the economy that they cannot be charged. A lack of criminal prosecutions of banks and their leaders fueled a public outcry over the perception that Wall Street giants are “too big to jail.”
Addressing those concerns, prosecutors in Washington and New York have met with regulators about how to criminally punish banks without putting them out of business and damaging the economy, interviews with lawyers and records reviewed by The New York Times show.

THE OTHER WOMAN (2014) – My rating: 8/10
April 30, 2014
I expected a summer fill-in that wasn’t going to be anything but a girly, cute flick. The Other Woman was just that but it was really good.
Not too girly and well written. I had a good laugh because this movie was actually funny. I’m impressed because it didn’t lose focus on the end result, which I can’t speak on because that would spoil the movie. Ladies, if you don’t like you mate looking at extremely sexy women, don’t see this flick. If you don’t mind, you’re in for some sexy scenes. Cameron Diaz is as sexy now as she ever was. I was glad to see a sensible plot on how to deal with a cheating spouse. Mark King, played by
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
is your average type of a lying, cheating husband. Leslie Mann played his unsuspecting wife, Kate King. Cameron Diaz played Carly Whitten, one of many unsuspecting mistresses and Kate…

New Poll Reveals Many Americans Express Doubt Over Global Warming, Evolution, Big Bang
April 30, 2014
Huffpost Science
Few Americans question that smoking causes cancer. But they express bigger doubts as concepts that scientists consider to be truths get further from our own experiences and the present time, an Associated Press-GfK poll found.
Americans have more skepticism than confidence in global warming, the age of the Earth and evolution and have the most trouble believing a Big Bang created the universe 13.8 billion years ago.
Rather than quizzing scientific knowledge, the survey asked people to rate their confidence in several statements about science and medicine.
