NASA Has a New Flight Plan for American Astronauts
September 19, 2014

It looks like the days of NASA paying the Russians millions of dollars to hitch a ride up to the International Space Station are numbered.

Flash Movie Review: Dolphin Tale 2
September 19, 2014
I cannot imagine how even the coldest of hearts can stay frozen when those set of eyes look to you for love and guidance. One of the purest things on Earth is the unconditional eyes of a baby or pet staring up at you. When I started out in college my courses were for veterinary science. I wound up looking into the eyes of a variety of animals. There was the horse that had a mischievous glint in his eye, who would toss up strands of hay every time I entered her stall. One of my professors would bring in one of his dogs that always found a comfortable spot by my feet whenever she wanted to take a nap. No matter what type of animal I encountered, I was always fascinated with their eyes; imagining how they see the world around us. From my limited observations I narrowed down…

NO GOOD DEED (2014) – My rating: 8.5/10
September 18, 2014
Amongst Hollywood’s redundant plots, No Good Deed is a refreshing change. Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson give top notch performances. Colin Evans, played by Idris Elba, is an imprisoned serial killer with a narcissistic complex. After almost serving a five year prison term for manslaughter, (he murdered 5 women and 1 man) Colin was denied parole, so he breaks out of prison with a specific agenda in mind. Taraji who plays Terri Granger, is a housewife and mother of 2. Terri is married to a prestigious lawyer named Jeffery Granger, played by Henry Simmons, who is always on the go. This plot appears to be the usual prison break story but it offers a mind binder that is the saving grace for this film. I cannot reveal much of the plot because it will give away the element of surprise so I have limited my comments. Aside from the brilliant acting, the movie is well directed, suspenseful and thrilling. I believe No…

Why Falling Asleep Without Brushing Your Teeth Is Actually Pretty Darn Gross
September 18, 2014
Huffpost Healthy Living
The question:Just how gross is it really if I forget to brush my teeth before bed every once in a while?
The answer: Bad news: It’s pretty gross. You probably already know that the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing those pearly whites twice a day. You also probably know that brushing your teeth is one of the easiest ways to avoid scaring off your date.
But brushing is important for reasons beyond fresh breath. Skip a session, and you’re on your way to encouraging the growth of bacterial buildup in the form of plaque, which can lead to cavities and gum disease.
I have synaesthesia
September 18, 2014
….is the sentence I use most often to explain why my drawings look the way they do. This is usually followed by raised eyebrows of the person I talk to. ‘I can see sounds’, I’d then say, with a somewhat apologetic expression.
Synaesthesia has the stigma of a condition or illness to it. But to me, it is not. It’s an ability more like it; the ability of our brain to sense the world around us in more dimensions than commonly perceived. Synesthetes are able to connect sound with visuals, numbers with music, scent with colours and so on. And can they do this when sober! I’m sometimes asked if those images came to me on an Ayahuasca or DMT trip but this is not the case. In fact, I am rather scared to try these things as I’m not sure what to expect! Many revolutionary artists have or had synaesthesia: Tori Amos, Vincent van…

Maker of Costly Hepatitis C Drug Sovaldi Strikes Deal on Generics for Poor Countries
September 17, 2014

The maker of one of the costliest drugs in the world announced on Monday that it had struck deals with seven generic drug makers in India to sell lower-cost versions of the medicine — a $1,000-a-pill hepatitis C treatment — in poorer countries.
Gilead Sciences, which is based in California, also said it would begin selling its own version of the drug in India and other developing countries at a fraction of the price it charges in the United States.
The company intends to provide greater access to the medicine, Sovaldi, for most of the nearly 180 million infected worldwide with hepatitis C who do not live in rich countries. Some 350,000 people die every year of hepatitis C infections, most of them in middle- and low-income nations.

Happy Accident With Garden Hose Leads To ‘Really Significant’ Stonehenge Discovery
September 16, 2014
Huffpost Science
Research at Stonehenge is going in circles–literally. And that’s a good thing.
A prolonged drought has revealed that the mysterious monument’s ancient stones, which currently arc in a semicircle, likely once formed a complete circle. The source of this discovery? A garden hose, used for watering the grounds, that was too short to reach the monument’s far side.
While the grounds around Stonehenge are typically lush and green, the monument experienced an unusually dry summer in 2013. As a result, a groundskeeper noticed odd patterns emerging in the scorched grass that seemed to indicate places where stones would be, if the monument were a full circle.

6 Things You Didn’t Know About Insomnia And How To Treat It
September 14, 2014
Huffpost Healthy Living
Waking up on the right side of the bed can be tough… if you only fell asleep 30 minutes ago. We all know what it feels like to toss and turn throughout the night, but for nearly 10 percent of Americans, insomnia is a chronic problem — lasting a month or longer, and characterized by difficulty falling or staying asleep.
Untreated insomnia can be a dangerous issue, too, says Steven Feinsilver, M.D., director of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Even if you’re not nodding off behind the wheel, a consistent lack of sleep can still contribute to headaches, back pain, irritability, lowered immunity and other health problems, he says. “People with poor sleep quality have a higher risk of everything from depression to high blood pressure to early death.”
