If we listen to the child we bear in our soul, our eyes will shine once more. If we don’t lose contact with this child, we won’t lose contact with life.
Michael Dunn Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Loud Music Killing
October 19, 2014
A Florida man convicted of first-degree murder for shooting a teenager to death over loud music was sentenced to life without parole Friday. Michael Dunn, 47, was convicted of killing Jordan Davis, 17, in November 2012 after he shot into a SUV of four teenagers 10 times when an argument broke out over loud music coming from the teens’ vehicle. Dunn was sentenced to an additional 90 years in prison for three attempted murder convictions and another 15 years for firing into an occupied vehicle. “Our justice system works. This case demonstrates that our justice system does work,” said Judge Russell Healey at the sentencing.
Dunn was found guilty on three counts of second-degree attempted murder in January, but a mistrial was declared on the first-degree murder charge. A jury in early October found Dunn, who is white, guilty of murdering Davis, who was black…

The 9 Types Of Hangover featuring Owls!
October 19, 2014

CAUSE: 4-6 pints/glasses of wine
SYMPTOMS: mild nausea, mental and physical slowness
This garden-variety hangover is usually the result of a ‘quick one after work’ that went on a bit longer than you’d intended, without things actually getting ‘silly’. Like the common cold, it’s not debilitating, but it does make performing the simplest of tasks around 30% more difficult and annoying.

CAUSE: excessive consumption in the wrong environment
SYMPTOMS: paranoia, self-loathing
A hangover that means the first act of the day is usually chewing your own fist, this typically follows a work party, family do, or an encounter with an ex — any situation where you were supposed to meet a higher standard of behaviour than normal. You can’t quite remember what it was you said or did that was wrong, but the wrongness of it is nethertheless wedged inside you, rotting you from the inside out.

CAUSE: spirits, particularly vodka
SYMPTOMS: complete memory loss

Old and new – what if …
October 19, 2014
Don Merritt is moving to the last part of a wonderful wander through Hebrews.
Two Mountaintops: http://lifereference.wordpress.com/2014/04/22/two-mountaintops/
These two mountains compare the old covenant God with the new covenant God. The Old Testament God with the New Testament God. The sacrifice to God with the sacrificed by God. The smiter and the friend.
And as I was reading the words and commentary an odd thing occurred. So odd I was in danger of comment-bombing Don’s piece to death.
So here I am. Hotfoot to the iMonastery. Unwrapping my parcel of thoughts. Laying out my small collection of thoughts on the earthen floor. Offering them in the spirit they were given to me. Unannounced and unattached. Like so much my lord offers. A gift for me to examine. To share. To discuss.
The first thought was of two mountains. One a fiery nightmare. Of height and width and girth. Hidden by…

How Can Anyone not Believe?
October 19, 2014
The changing of the seasons, so perfect and so grand
Winter, spring, summer and fall, they all sweep across this land
Growing trees reach skyward, the hummingbirds and the bees,
A perfect picture in nature, how can anyone not believe?
Look upon the oceans, across the mighty sea
The beauty of each sunset, how can anyone not believe?
To perfect to just happen, proves that God created this earth
For man to come and live one, with the miracle we call birth
LIfe in all its glory, a gift from God above
Within each and every person is God’s eternal love
Letting Go
October 18, 2014
The closing paragraph in the article linked speaks about the journey we are and the letting go that is required in the earthly part of the journey. There is a spiritual essence to our journey, one that takes us amongst the stars.
Parker Palmer writes extensively about spending time with our self in the quietness and silence of solitude. Here, we listen to what is being said to us by our spirit. We explore the depth and nature of who we are in relationship to the world. We let go of the busyness that surrounds even briefly feeling rested in the effort.
Joyce Sutphen shared the poem How to Listen. She describes the letting go listening requires.
Tilt your head slightly to one side and lift
your eyebrows expectantly. Ask questions.
Delve into the subject at hand or let
things come randomly. Don’t expect answers.
Forget everything…
