At least 786 children died of abuse or neglect in the U.S. in a six-year span in plain view of child protection authorities — many of them beaten, starved or left alone to drown while agencies had good reason to know they were in danger, The Associated Press has found.

To determine that number, the AP canvassed the 50 states, the District of Columbia and branches of the military — circumventing a system that does a terrible job of accounting for child deaths. Many states struggled to provide numbers. Secrecy often prevailed.

Most of the 786 children whose cases were compiled by the AP were under the age of 4. They lost their lives even as authorities were investigating their families or providing some form of protective services because of previous instances of neglect or violence or other troubles in the home.

Walmart has slashed the prices on several models of the new iPhone.

The largest retailer in the world is offering the new iPhone 6 for just $129, a $50 discount from the usual Walmart price, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. The offer applies to the 16-gigabyte iPhone 6, but the store has also discounted the bigger-screened iPhone 6 Plus, cutting the price of the 16-gigabyte model to $229 from $279.

Walmart also said it’s knocking $50 off the 64-gigabyte versions of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, offering the phones at $229 and $329.

President Barack Obama said Friday that Sony Pictures Entertainment “made a mistake” by nixing the release of a comedic film after the company was hacked and received cyber threats.

“Sony’s a corporation. It suffered significant damage. There were threats against some of its employees,” he said “I am sympathetic to the concerns that they faced. Having said all that, yes, I think they made a mistake.”

 In a year-end press conference, Obama said that he wishes Sony had spoken to him before deciding to back down on the film “The Interview,” which depicted a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “I would have told them ‘Do not get into a pattern in which you’re intimidated by these kinds of criminal attacks,'” he said.

An unlikely plot when 2 high ranking women decide to plot murder on the terrorist responsible for the death of their son/fiance.  In other words, revenge.  Alfre Woodard and Katherine Heigl are CIA and President of the United States, respectively.  Katherine Heigl plays Charleston Tucker, the CIA Official who was engaged to Aaron Payton, the President’s son, played by Mark Tallman.  Alfre Woodard plays President Constance Payton, a former war veteran and Courtney B. Vance plays the President’s husband, Marshall Payton.  For some reason, they were all together in Kabul, Afghanistan where they were attacked by a terrorist group lead by Omar Abdul Fatah.  Aaron was killed but the women were not.  It appears that their mission, going forward, is to kill any and everyone responsible for Aaron’s death.  There are many secrets yet to unfold.  While I love a good drama, I’m not sure this one is going to make it.  There’s  nothing wrong with the acting…

Using world survey data, the Lancet study authors found life satisfaction followed a predictable trajectory depending on where people lived.

In countries such as the UK and the , life satisfaction followed a U-shape, dipping to a low in midlife.

In Africa it was low throughout, and in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and Latin America it declined with age.

Has anyone noticed when Chris Rock makes a movie, he always seems to narrate as though it’s a documentary.  While I don’t see a problem with this, I just wonder why he does it that way.  I guess he can make more jokes and probably give the film a more humorous aura.  Having said that, I thought Top Five was pretty funny.  The story has a nice ring to it as well as an enormous cast of  comedians.  Expect to see Tracey Morgan, Sherri Shepherd, Adam Sandler, Kevin Hart, Cedric the Entertainer, J.B. Smoove,  Jerry Sienfeld and Whoopi Goldberg, to name a few.    However, the story centers around Chris Rock, who plays Andre Allen and Rosario Dawson, who plays Chelsea Brown, a reporter for the NY Times.  Despite Andre and Chelsea’s endless conversations, they manage to withhold secrets from each other that make Top Five a little suspenseful and interesting.  Gabrielle Union plays the ultimate reality diva in…

A tiny dinosaur about the size of a house cat was recently discovered in South Korea.

The dinosaur’s fossilized remains span about 11 inches, but scientists told Korea JoongAng Daily that it was likely about 20 inches long when it was alive.

“Based on the findings so far, we assume that the dinosaur is something close to a microraptor or others in the raptor genera,” Lim Jong-deock, chief curator of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, told the news agency. “However, it’s uncertain at this stage exactly which type of dinosaur it was, and there is a chance that it is a new type that hasn’t been reported to academia as of yet.”

At least 141 people were killed and 121 injured Tuesday when Taliban gunmen attacked a military-run school in Peshawar, Pakistan. 132 of the dead were children, Pakistan military spokesman Asim Bajwa said.

Bajwa announced that the siege had ended, and that all 7 attackers had been killed, after an eight-hour gun battle between the Taliban fighters and Pakistani security forces.

Most of students killed were between 12 to 16 years old, said the chief minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pervez Khattak. In all, about 500 pupils and teachers were believed to be inside the Army Public School and Degree College when uniformed militants stormed the building Tuesday morning, according to Reuters.
