God’s Not Dead 2 is another faith based movie where the existence of GOD is put on trial to prove HE is still alive and real. Like the first God’s Not Dead, the burden of proof is on the student. In this sequel, a teacher named Grace Wesley (Melissa Joan Hart) is in danger of being fired and having her teaching credentials revoked because she referenced Jesus in the classroom where GOD is not allowed. Grace violated school policy when she was accused of teaching and or preaching religion to her students. Brilliantly acted, “MFH”, based on a true story, is about a little 10 year old girl who gets sick with a mysterious disease no one seems able to properly diagnose. This faithful family of five seems to be doing everything right, so why are they targeted for this pain and suffering as though they were common street criminals? After seeing several doctors, their daughter, Anna Beam (Kylie Rogers) was finally diagnosed with a rare, fatal digestive disease. To make matters worse, the pain involved with this disease was so bad, 10 year old Anna said she would rather be dead than to live in this kind of pain. As a loyal fan of Superman, especially the last remake “Man of Steel” I am truly upset with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. There’s a lot to be said about this film, which is actually a follow-up to Man of Steel. I will try to be as fair as I can in bringing you the facts as I know them. Both films were directed by Zack Snyder (how could he do this to us?) Both films starred Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Superman’s adoptive parents, Jonathan & Martha Kent, respectively and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. Somehow, Jimmy Olsen was pretty much left out except for a voice in Dawn of Justice as a CIA agent.
Confused is not the word for all these classes of world ending movies where the youth are shut out causing them to fight the old school for freedom and information that will lead them to a functioning part of the world that will allow them to make their own decisions and ultimately seeking out a new way of life that would allow less stringent rules and a better future for all. Included in these series of world ending movies where people are also categorized by class is the Maze Runner/Scorch Trails, The Hunger Games trilogy, Tomorrowland, The Giver, District 9 and Elysium. I found myself overlapping stories, making Divergent and Maze Runner fitting nicely together. Having pointed out Hollywood’s new obsession, let me add that it isn’t all bad. While these movies are dealing with similar themes, some are doing better than others. I like the Maze Runner series better…
10 Cloverfield Lane is a good one. Advertised as a thriller/horror movie, it’s a lot of one and some of the other. It keeps you guessing all the way through. I was entertaining at lease three endings before we even reached the middle of the movie. A young lady Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) apparently leaves her fiancé, Ben. On the way to where ever she was going, she drives through Louisiana late at night and has an accident with something (lets assume it’s another car). The next scene, she’s bolted to a wall, unconscious in a bed, locked in a concrete room with bruises on her leg and face. Soon a man named Howard (John Goodman) appears who eventually tells her a story about why she is there, in his bunker and how grateful she should be. The air outside is contaminated, according to Howard, and there may be aliens…
London has Fallen is one of a couple of similar titles (White House Down and Olympus has Fallen) that deal with the taking over of a country or the attempted murder of a world leader i.e., president of the US, right in their own back yard. This time, a funeral for the Prime Minister, James Wilson is scheduled to take placed in London and is being attended by many world leaders. Concern for their safety becomes a growing concern because of the state of the world regarding terrorist, and current events including the mysterious death of the Prime Minister. President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart), Secret Service Agent, Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), Secret Service Director, Lynne Jacobs (Angela Bassett), travel to London to join many other prominent world leaders for Wilson’s state funeral.
