Em uma das minhas andanças por livrarias (amo), me deparei com o livro “Como Ser Uma Parisiense, em qualquer lugar do mundo” (english: How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits) da editora Fontanar. Não pensei duas vezes e fui direto ao caixa!

O livro escrito por Sophie Mas, Audrey Diwan, Caroline De Maigret e Anne Berest é incrível! Ele fala sobre a icônica mulher parisiense e suas tão desejadas (e fontes de estudo) curiosidades, sejam elas boas ou até ruins.

Happy Independence Day!

 In celebration, rather than taking you to the Victorian Era on our usual steam locomotive, this time we’ll bring all our picnic paraphernalia and get on board a red, white, and blue decorated dirigible and soar into our story.

Steering the airship is Kathryn, aka KR Bigfish from Another Foodie Blogger, who gave us the “three things” for this episode.  As sometimes happens, a comment also made its way into the episode.  Kathryn mentioned a particular purple critter, and I couldn’t resist. But I’ll leave that for a surprise.

Lagerstroemia speciosa (Queen’s Crepe Myrtle) Aka Giant Crepe-myrtle, Banabá Tree, La Reina de las Flores, or Pride of India, is a species of Lagerstroemia native to tropical southern Asia. In Part One of these series, I only emphasized the flower of this tree. On Part Two of this series, I will emphasize on the tree itself. It is a small to medium-sized tree growing to 20 metres (66 ft) tall, with smooth, flaky bark. This is one of only a few deciduous trees which grow in tropical and subtropical areas of the country. A profusion of large, three-inch wide, bright pink to lavender blooms appear in dense, foot-long, terminal panicles from June to July, making queen’s crape myrtle a spectacular specimen or street tree. Queen’s crepe myrtle can reach 40 to 60 feet in height and a spread of 30 to 40 feet.

Photography-wise, you could say this is a case of learning from one’s subject.

Anyone who joined me on last week’s walk around Windmill Hill, will probably know  that this drift of yellow is commonly known as Lady’s bedstraw or Lady’s tresses (Galium verum). When dried it smells of freshly mown hay, and so was once added to mattresses. Given these supine associations it seemed fitting that the only way to capture its essence was to lie down with it in the grass.

And lying down certainly reduces operator wobble, although there wasn’t much I could do about the summer breeze.  So I caught that too. And since I have yet to devise a ‘scratch and sniff’ widget, you must now use your imagination to summon a fragrance with subtle notes of gardenia plus a dash of fresh acacia honey. Mmmm.
